Speaking at the press conference, Minister Tran Van Son said that the socio-economic situation of our country in May continued to be maintained stably and changed positively with many areas improved compared to April.
Notably, inflation kept decreasing trend over the months; the production and business situation has prospered, the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) increased by 2,2% compared to April and increased by 4% over the same period; stable agricultural production, exporting 0,1 million tons of rice, worth US$1 billion, up 0,53% in volume and 41,1% in value over the same period.

The head of the Government Office informed that in 5 months, the country's socio-economic situation has many bright spots. For example: Inflation is under control. The average CPI in 5 months increased by 3,55% over the same period last year. Full expenditure, state budget revenue is estimated at 769,6 trillion VND, equaling 47,5% of the estimate. Export is sufficient for import and export, trade surplus is 9,8 billion USD.
Food and energy security are guaranteed. Labor supply basically meets demand.
The money market was basically stable, the operating interest rate decreased 3 times in a row, the lending interest rate was adjusted down; the exchange rate is stable, in line with market movements; proactively manage monetary policy in a suitable, sure, flexible, proactive and timely manner.
Production and business activities have undergone many changes. In which, agricultural, forestry and fishery production is stable and growing. Trade and services continued the upward trend, the total retail sales of consumer goods and services in 5 months increased by 12,6% over the same period last year.
Along with that, tourism recovered quickly, with nearly 4,6 million international visitors, 12,6 times higher than the same period last year, equaling 57,5% of the year plan.
Investment was promoted, public investment disbursement by May 31 reached over VND 5 trillion, equaling 157% of the plan, an increase of VND 22,22 trillion, up 41% over the same period, thereby pushing up a large amount of capital into the economy, supporting output for many industries and fields, creating jobs.
Social Security is guaranteed. Medical examination and treatment is actively implemented; Education and training are concerned and directed. Labor supply-demand connection activities are enhanced; promptly support people and workers who lose their jobs and reduce working hours; People's living standards continue to improve.
National defense, security and territorial sovereignty are maintained. External affairs and international integration continue to be implemented comprehensively, proactively, actively and effectively, especially economic diplomacy.

Besides the achieved results, according to Minister Tran Van Son, Government members also frankly assessed that our country still has many shortcomings, difficulties and challenges to face and need to be handled.
Specifically: Macro-economic stability, large balances with many potential risks; inflation tends to decrease but is still under pressure; enterprises, especially small and medium-sized enterprises continue to face difficulties, especially in terms of access to capital, and orders decline; lending interest rates, although reduced, are still at a high level; the price of input materials in agriculture is at a high level, especially for animal feed.
In addition, the implementation of a number of policies of the three national target programs, the Socio-Economic Development and Recovery Program, is still slow; the labor and employment situation faces many challenges; risks of epidemics, storms, floods, heat, drought, climate change... continue to need attention; the life of a part of the people is still difficult, especially in remote areas, ethnic minority areas...
To improve the above difficulties and challenges, Minister Tran Van Son said that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directed that in the coming time, all levels, authorities and localities should prioritize the implementation of the target. growth; focus on promoting 3 growth drivers; continue to implement monetary policy firmly, proactively, flexibly, timely and effectively; well perform the work of elaboration, appraisal and approval of plannings, ensuring progress and quality.
In addition, it is necessary to accelerate large-scale industrial projects, encourage enterprises to participate more deeply in the global production chain; ensure the balance of food and food; focus on promoting reform of administrative procedures, improving business investment environment; fully, promptly and effectively implement policies to ensure social security and social welfare; firmly grasp the situation, not to be passively surprised, firmly defend the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity; promote propaganda on the tasks and results of the implementation of the socio-economic development plan.
