The park is included in the planning...

The northern coastal area of Quang Nam can be defined from the border with Da Nang City (Dien Ngoc ward, Dien Ban town) running along to the northern bank of Cua Dai estuary and the Thu Bon River (Cua Dai ward, Hoi An City).

If the coastal town of Cam An - Cua Dai (Hoi An City) has celebrated its 20th anniversary (2004 - 2024), then the Dien Ngoc - Dien Duong sandy area is also about to celebrate its 10th anniversary of transforming into a ward (since 2015).

Planned as an area with great urbanization potential as well as bustling commercial, service, and tourism activities, the density of functional zones, parks, and seaside squares in this area is relatively high according to the plan.

According to the plan, Hoi An City will have up to 10 coastal park clusters and mixed-use public and service spaces in An Bang. Meanwhile, Dien Ban will have a cultural and eco-tourism seaside square to host major cultural activities and events for Dien Ban town and Quang Nam province.

However, after the planning adjustments, some coastal park clusters in Hoi An were forced to resort to renovation as there was no longer enough space to create the parks as originally intended.

In Dien Ban, functional areas and seaside squares remain in the future, and the coastal town is quiet when night falls. With limited green spaces to choose from, in recent years, residents and tourists in this area have only been able to relax on beaches like Ha My, An Bang, and Cua Dai.

Park for the future

The trend in establishing green spaces in general, and parks in particular, has changed significantly compared to the past. Parks are no longer simply complexes of buildings but must be intentionally and strategically preserved; enhancing or restoring elements of natural systems such as forests, agricultural land, wetlands, riverside areas, and coastal forests to reduce costs and increase urban resilience.

According to Mr. Bui Anh Tuan, Head of the Planning Department of the Department of Construction, this area has several planned parks with fairly large areas, such as the mangrove forest park (75ha) with the characteristics of an ecotourism park, and the Tra Que traditional vegetable village agricultural park (46ha)...

There are many concerns about feasibility, but in essence, these parks are designed on the foundation of preserving the entire ecosystem of those areas to conserve green space for the future.

Mr. Nguyen The Hung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoi An City, believes that the issue needs to be addressed right from the planning stage. For example, the planning of An My Flower Park (Cam Chau) should be oriented towards a wetland park.

Because this is characteristic of the area's ecosystem in the past, combining tourism and service activities would be very suitable instead of concreting, raising the ground level to create roundabouts, planting flowers and ornamental trees, etc., which would affect the urban drainage capacity.

Besides planning from the authorities, cities urgently need more themed parks with the support of organizations and ideas from businesses.

In mid-2024, the Cua Dai Community Eco-Park (Cua Dai Ward), themed "Wild Birds," which is part of the Cua Dai Green Corridor planning project by the Institute of Construction Economics (ICUE) in collaboration with Think Playgrounds, was officially handed over to serve the needs of the community.

Meanwhile, in Dien Ban, the Co Co themed amusement park (Dien Duong ward) has taken shape, although some obstacles prevent its operation. However, it is expected to become a unique destination serving locals and tourists in the near future.

The highlight of the entire Co Co riverside route through Quang Nam province, according to the urban design project for the coastal and riverside Co Co route, is envisioned as a "Quang Nam cultural, historical, and ecological park chain".

Although still somewhat vague, this reflects the ambition of the management agency to make a significant impact on the coastal urban chain in the northern part of the province. If this chain of parks is established and connected in the future, the coastal urban area of northern Quang Nam will be much more attractive and "livable" in the eyes of residents, tourists, and investors alike.
