Elderly woman nearly loses money after believing a call from someone impersonating a police officer.

VTV.vn - After receiving a threatening call from someone claiming to be a police officer, a 76-year-old woman in Dien Bien took money to the bank to transfer it, but was stopped in time.

The police intervened in time, preventing Ms. H from transferring money to the scammer.

On May 25th, the Dien Bien Provincial Police announced that, due to the continuing complexity of individuals impersonating police officers and government officials to scam people out of money, the Cam Khe Commune Police recently prevented a scam, saving a citizen from losing over 15 million VND.

Accordingly, on the afternoon of April 28th, after receiving a report from a bank employee about an elderly woman exhibiting signs of distress while processing a money transfer, the Cam Khe Commune Police quickly coordinated an investigation. Through inquiry, the woman was identified as Mrs. TTH (76 years old), residing in the commune.

At the police station, Ms. H. stated that she had received a call from someone claiming to be a police officer, demanding that she transfer all her savings to "verify assets," and threatening arrest if she did not comply. Out of fear, Ms. H. took over 15 million VND to the bank to transfer to the caller.

After being informed and having the scam explained to her by the police, Ms. H. realized what was happening and stopped the transaction in time.

The police advise citizens to be vigilant and absolutely not transfer money as requested via phone calls from individuals claiming to be police officers, prosecutors, judges, or other government officials. If you detect any suspicious activity, quickly report it to the nearest police station for assistance.
