A cyclist died while participating in a race in Majorca. |
The victim (unnamed) died while participating in the Mallorca 312 amateur cycling race, a race around the Spanish island. The accident happened on the morning of April 26 (local time). Former Chelsea star Eden Hazard also participated in the event.
According to British media, the 40-year-old racer fell and suffered a cardiac arrest while racing. Medical staff tried to save his life and quickly took him to a hospital on the island by ambulance, but the victim did not survive.
Police have launched an investigation. Race organisers said: "Mallorca 312 OK Mobility is saddened by the loss of a rider during the event. We would like to express our deepest condolences to the rider's family and loved ones. Rest in peace."
This is not the first time tragedy has struck the island's cycling community.
Earlier this month, an Irish tourist died on the road. In March 2016, a Scottish tourist died after being hit by a truck while cycling. In September 2023, a British cyclist was hit by a truck and seriously injured, falling 30 feet off a cliff.
Meanwhile, Hazard shared when crossing the finish line: "The race was difficult and my legs were really sore, but it was great. The first part was okay, but the last 25km was really difficult. I need to train more and lose a little weight, then it will be perfect."
