After many days of inspection, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) issued Document No. 841, reporting the inspection results related to the case of CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company being accused of selling sick pork and chicken at a store in Soc Trang province.

According to the report, the interdisciplinary inspection team of Soc Trang province, including representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Department of Health, Department of Industry and Trade, etc., inspected 4 CP Fresh Shop stores in the area. Initial results showed that no trading of sick pork, chicken or expired products was detected.

According to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, the inspection team also took samples of ground pork and sent them to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine Region VII for testing. The results showed that all samples were negative for common disease-causing viruses such as African swine fever, classical swine fever, and blue ear disease.

Authorities only discovered a few administrative violations at the inspected establishments, including expired food safety certificates at 3 business locations, and missing documents such as original business registration certificates and food safety training certificates for employees at all 4 stores. These errors are being requested to be corrected.

In addition to Soc Trang province, the inspection team also expanded the inspection of CP Vietnam's livestock farming, slaughtering and trading systems in the following localities: Can Tho, Ca Mau, Kien Giang and Hau Giang from May 31 to June 2. Initial results continued to show that there were no signs of diseased meat being mixed in, and that all products had clear origins and complete quarantine papers.

Previously, on May 30, a social media account posted images with content accusing a CP Fresh Shop in Soc Trang province of selling pork and chicken with signs of disease and odor. This information spread widely on social media, causing concern among the public.

Immediately afterwards, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine ordered an urgent inspection. By the evening of June 2, after the test results were available, CP Vietnam stores in Soc Trang province had their seals removed and operations resumed as normal. Local authorities continued to monitor and inspect to ensure food safety.

However, after the document of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine was issued, many consumers expressed skepticism about the objectivity of the conclusion. The key point is that the violations occurred in 2022, but the pork samples tested by the authorities were products sold in 2025.

Taking samples after nearly three years to refute the accusations has raised questions about the honesty and legal value of the results. Some people believe that if we want to clarify the truth, we need to focus on verifying the details at the time of the incident instead of just examining the current form.

On the morning of June 3, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment held a May press conference. Here, the press asked many questions related to the case of CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company being accused of bringing diseased pork to the market.

Responding to the press, Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, said that after social media spread images of pork with signs of disease allegedly smuggled into food stores, the department requested CP Vietnam to report and explain. After verification, the image was taken on March 26, 2022 at a slaughterhouse in Hau Giang province, a processing unit for CP Vietnam.

According to Ms. Thuy, at that time, the facility requested heat treatment to change the purpose of use as aquatic feed, which was in accordance with regulations. However, the facility's records did not have a document approving the treatment, so the department requested additional information.

Notably, Ms. Thuy confirmed that stamping a square quarantine stamp on pork is against regulations: “Pigs with dermatitis must have a round stamp for changing their intended use. Pigs with disease that need to be destroyed must have a triangular stamp. The square stamp only applies to products that are eligible for circulation on the market,” Ms. Thuy told the press.

Chairing this meeting, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien requested clarification of responsibilities: “We cannot let one bad apple spoil the barrel. We will support businesses that comply with the law, but if they put dirty products on the market, it is unacceptable.”

Regarding this, Ms. Thuy said that at that time, the pigs only had skin symptoms and were not subject to mandatory destruction, so heat treatment was appropriate. However, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien clearly affirmed: "This is wrong, because the disease prevention plan clearly stipulates that pigs showing signs of disease must be treated with lime, chemicals, or burned for destruction."
