Traffic Police Department issues warning

People need to be wary of the "traffic fine" scam, which involves sending SMS messages with fake links impersonating the Public Service Portal, luring people into entering card information to steal money.

Recently, scammers have increasingly used sophisticated tactics such as impersonating the National Public Service Portal or creating fake "traffic violation" notification pages. Some citizens have received messages from unknown numbers with the content "your vehicle has committed a traffic violation," along with a request to access the website dichvucong-vn.com to process the "traffic violation."

This website was designed to resemble the National Public Service Portal to create a sense of trust. Upon accessing it, users will receive a violation notification stating, "You have violated traffic laws and been fined 50,000 VND for parking in an obstructive manner. Please pay promptly to avoid further charges. To complete the process, please follow the instructions…".

Subsequently, the fraudulent system continues to trick users into making immediate payments by requesting full bank card information, including card number, cardholder name, expiration date, and CVV code. Once users enter information such as bank card numbers, OTP codes, or personal data, the fraudsters can gain control of the account and withdraw money.

Citizens should be aware of fake messages impersonating the Public Service Portal.

Authorities advise people not to click on suspicious links in text messages, and not to provide card information, OTP codes, or passwords without verifying the source. Furthermore, there is currently no notification of traffic violations via text message or phone call.

"People should not click on any links; this is a form of scam to collect fines or personal information. Messages from unknown phone numbers should be deleted," the Traffic Police Department posted on its official social media account.

When a violation is detected via surveillance camera, the police will extract the data, check the license plate, and cross-reference the vehicle information. Then, the authorities will send a written violation notice to the vehicle owner's registered address (usually via mail or through the local police).

Offenders will be required to go to the traffic police or local police station to clarify their actions and have a report filed. There, they will receive the official penalty decision and then make the payment through the state treasury or the official public service portal.

At the same time, the agency confirms that currently there is only one official link to access the Public Service Portal: dichvucong.gov.vn. Citizens can also access the Traffic Police Department's website at csgt.vn or search on the VneTraffic application to find official news and look up administrative violations.
