Department of Cultural Heritage requests Hoi An to clearly report on entrance fee collection

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên05/04/2023

On the afternoon of April 5, Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh, Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee, said that the city had received a document from the Department of Cultural Heritage requesting Hoi An City People's Committee and Hoi An Cultural Heritage Management and Conservation Center to provide information related to the collection of entrance fees at the world cultural heritage of Hoi An ancient town.

According to Mr. Lanh, this week, the city will have a specific report to send to the Department of Cultural Heritage.

Hoi An City People's Committee has just issued a plan to strengthen the management of tour guide activities in Hoi An Ancient Town (Hoi An City).

Tourists visit Hoi An ancient town on April 4.

Specifically, from May 15, domestic and international visitors must buy tickets at ticket counters before entering Hoi An Ancient Town. Tickets will remain at the current price of VND120,000/ticket for international visitors and VND80,000/ticket for domestic visitors. Ticket sales are from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily in the summer and until 9 p.m. in the winter.

In addition, there will be two separate entrances on the main roads into the old quarter, one for locals and one for tourists.

Hoi An City Chairman: 'Collecting ticket fees is to ensure fairness for all tourists'

Speaking to Thanh Nien earlier, Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh said that in essence, the policy of selling package tickets and the ticket price structure has not changed. The problem is that Hoi An sightseeing tickets are often included in the tour prices offered by travel agencies. For a long time, there has been a situation where many travel agencies do not buy tickets for customers, go to Hoi An ancient town and let tourists "wander around", do not provide proper care, do not receive detailed explanations, and even "ride horses to see flowers".

This inadvertently creates a feeling of disappointment for tourists, making them feel that Hoi An is not beautiful, not profound, and that tourism is not professional. Because not having a ticket means not being able to explore the true value of the space of Hoi An ancient town, which they should have the right to enjoy.

According to Mr. Lanh, Hoi An tourism is based on the community, taking tourists as the target of service. Therefore, by all means, the community must benefit from tourism, so that they become the subject of tourism. The purpose of selling tickets is to prevent loss of revenue, so that the source of revenue is equal and sufficient.
