On June 17, at a meeting with reporters from news agencies and newspapers on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), Deputy Director of the Customs Department Tran Duc Hung informed about some of the industry's operational results in the first 6 months of 2025.
Many outstanding results
Accordingly, in the first 6 months of 2025, under the direction of the Government, the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Finance , the Customs Department has basically completed the assigned programs, plans and tasks.
Notably, in terms of organizational arrangement, the Customs Department has urgently and resolutely carried out assigned tasks and implemented Resolution 18-NQ/TW. Specifically, after only 15 days of Decision No. 382/QD-BTC of the Ministry of Finance taking effect (from March 1, 2025 to 0:00 on March 15, 2025), all work of arranging, organizing the apparatus and personnel of units within the Customs Department has completed the conversion to the new organizational model. The new model includes 12 units under the Department and 20 regional customs branches, reducing 485 units out of the previous total of 902 units, equivalent to 53.77%.
Along with that, the Customs Department focuses on implementing assigned tasks, closely following the direction of the 4 key Resolutions of the Politburo (Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science, technology and innovation, Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW on international integration in the new situation, Resolution No. 66-NQ/TW on innovation in law-making and enforcement to meet the requirements of national development in the new era, Resolution 68-NQ/TW on private economic development). At the same time, it continues to facilitate import and export activities, making efforts to reform and modernize.
Thereby, a number of outstanding results were achieved in the first 6 months of 2025. Notably, the Customs representative at the World Customs Organization (WCO) was re-elected as Chairman of the Standing Technical Committee for the 2025-2026 term, contributing to affirming the role and prestige of Vietnam Customs in the international arena. The Customs Department has reported to competent authorities to amend and supplement 3 articles of the Customs Law, completed 49 Department-level projects and amended relevant Decrees and Circulars to ensure consistency, feasibility and transparency in the implementation of Resolution No. 66-NQ/TW. The Customs sector also continues to review, simplify and reduce customs procedures, and reduce unnecessary documents in customs dossiers; Upgrading the national Single Window and ASEAN Single Window systems ensures connection of the goods clearance system, specialized inspection procedures, and licensing systems of ministries and branches on the national single window system, ensuring the goal of paperless goods clearance...
Regarding import-export turnover, from the beginning of the year to June 15, 2025, the import-export value reached 390.38 billion USD, an increase of 15.4% over the same period in 2024. The trade balance had a surplus of 4.38 billion USD. The state budget revenue from January 1 to June 15 reached more than 201.4 trillion VND, equal to 49% of the estimate, equal to 42.9% of the target; an increase of 10.7% over the same period in 2024.
As the standing agency of the Ministry of Finance's Steering Committee 389, the Customs Department has proactively and actively advised and effectively implemented assigned tasks in the fight against smuggling and trade fraud. As a result, from December 15, 2024 to May 14, 2025, the entire Customs sector has detected, arrested and handled over 6,400 cases of violations of customs laws, with an estimated value of nearly 11.3 trillion VND in violated goods. The amount of money collected for the budget reached approximately 385 billion VND...
Cooperation between press and customs is increasingly effective
To achieve the above results, Mr. Hung emphasized that the entire Customs sector has made efforts to comprehensively deploy all aspects of work and has always been accompanied and coordinated by press agencies to quickly, promptly and accurately propagate the current activities of the Customs sector. In the first 6 months of 2025, newspapers, magazines and television stations had more than 6,500 quality news, articles and reports, contributing to helping people and businesses learn and systematically grasp the work of customs reform and modernization, innovations in customs policies and laws, etc.
In addition, to provide information quickly, promptly, and more closely to each citizen and business, the Customs Department has organized a number of field trips; promoted communication activities on social platforms, built and operated the official Facebook social networking site, Youtube, Tiktok, and Zalo channels of the Customs Department from May 2025 to suit the communication orientation in the context of digital transformation. Communication activities on social platforms of the Customs Department have received support and spread from news agencies and the community.
To complete the political tasks of the whole year 2025 in the context of many difficulties and challenges, with very heavy requirements, Mr. Tran Duc Hung believes that with the coordination and active support from officials, reporters, and editors of newspapers and radio stations, in the coming time, the propaganda work on the activities of the Customs sector will have positive and more effective changes, contributing to helping the Customs sector successfully complete its assigned tasks.
At the meeting, the leaders of the Customs Department sent congratulations to reporters and editors of news agencies and newspapers on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day; received, recorded and answered a number of issues that representatives of press agencies were interested in to overcome in the coming time to further improve the effectiveness of coordination in communication work of the Customs sector.
