(TN&MT) - The Department of Hydrometeorology, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment after the reorganization has 13 units including departments, offices and public service units - 6 units less than when it was the General Department of Hydrometeorology.

The Minister of Agriculture and Environment issued Decision No. 35-QDNNMT dated March 1, 2025 on the functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of the Department of Hydrometeorology (DHT).

Accordingly, the Department of Hydrometeorology is an organization under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, performing the function of advising and assisting the Minister in state management and organizing the enforcement of laws on hydrometeorology nationwide; managing and organizing the implementation of public service activities within the scope of state management of the Department according to the provisions of law.

The Department of Hydrometeorology has a Director and no more than 3 Deputy Directors. Previously, Mr. Nguyen Thuong Hien, Chief of Office of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment , was appointed by Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy to hold the position of Director of the Department of Hydrometeorology from March 1, 2025. The Deputy Directors are Mr. La Duc Dung, Mr. Hoang Duc Cuong and Ms. Dang Thanh Mai.

According to the Decision, the Department of Hydrometeorology has 16 specialized management tasks and powers, and also performs other tasks assigned by the Minister. In particular, the Department will manage the operation of the hydrometeorological station network; forecast, warn and broadcast forecast and warning information on natural disasters (excluding natural forest fires). The Department of Hydrometeorology is also the national focal point participating in the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the Storm Committee, the ASEAN Subcommittee on Geophysical Meteorology; act as the focal point participating in international forums, implementing international treaties on hydrometeorology as assigned by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.

According to the Decision, the organizational structure of the Hydrometeorological Department has 13 units, a reduction of 6 units compared to Decision No. 10/QD-KTTV of the Prime Minister dated April 24, 2023 on the Regulations on functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of the General Department of Hydrometeorology. Including: Department of Hydrometeorological Forecasting and Information and Data Management; Department of Hydrometeorological Network Management; Department of Science, Technology and International Cooperation; Department of Planning and Finance; Department of Organization and Personnel; Office; Center for Hydrometeorological Monitoring Techniques; Center for Hydrometeorological Information and Data; National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting; Center for Hydrometeorological Investigation, Technology and Services; Northern Hydrometeorological Station; Central Hydrometeorological Station; Southern and Central Highlands Hydrometeorological Station.

During the transition period, public service units under the General Department of Hydrometeorology (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) specified in Article 3 of Decision No. 10/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister stipulating the functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of the General Department of Hydrometeorology will continue to operate according to current regulations, until the decision stipulating the functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of the new units is issued and takes effect.

The Journal of Hydrometeorology continues to operate until the competent authority issues a decision to reorganize and consolidate the Journal of Hydrometeorology.
