The future of Cucurella has suddenly become a subject of interest. |
Cucurella's future at Chelsea has unexpectedly become a topic of interest, with the Spanish defender reportedly facing the possibility of returning to La Liga next season.
According to EPL World , Cucurella is currently on the watchlists of both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. The two La Liga giants are reportedly looking to add depth to their left flank and value the experience of the 1998-born player.
Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion FC in 2022 for a fee of £62 million. However, his time at Stamford Bridge was not particularly successful. The Spanish defender faced much criticism for his inconsistent form in the early stages of his time with the London club.
Nevertheless, Cucurella remains a highly experienced player at the highest level of football. His attacking contributions, agile movement, and strong technical skills continue to attract interest from major La Liga clubs.
Of the two potential destinations, Barcelona is considered quite familiar to Cucurella, having previously come through the La Masia academy. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid needs more competition on the left wing to support their squad upgrade plans for next season.
Chelsea have not yet made any official confirmation regarding Cucurella's future. However, the fact that the defender has been linked with La Liga teams suggests that a return to Spain in the summer 2026 transfer window is entirely possible.
Cucurella has made 32 appearances for Chelsea this season, scoring one goal and providing four assists in the 2025/26 Premier League, and is also preparing for the 2026 World Cup in North America. Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are expected to pay €42 million to secure the services of the current top Spanish full-back.
