Strengthening the position of the Vietnamese community in Korea

Following the working program in Japan, from June 13-14, the working delegation of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese led by Chairman Nguyen Trung Kien went to Korea to carry out support and community mobilization activities.

Attending the meeting and working session with the delegation were Vietnamese Ambassador to Korea Vu Ho, Consul General in Busan Doan Phuong Lan and nearly 20 overseas Vietnamese representing 9 Vietnamese organizations and associations in Korea including: General Association of Vietnamese, Student Association, Women's Union, Vietnamese Business Association in Korea, Vietnam-Korea Business and Investment Association, Charity Association, Innovation Network, Rich People's Club and Vien Ngo Pagoda.

Informing the delegation about the community situation in the area, Ambassador Vu Ho said that there are currently about 350,000 Vietnamese people living, studying and working in many provinces and cities of Korea, concentrated in Seoul, Incheon, Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam, Busan...

The Vietnamese in Korea are a young community with a fairly fast growth and integration rate. Vietnamese associations in Korea are quite diverse, established based on different fields, professions, and characteristics, and operate in an increasingly positive and effective direction.

Representatives of the associations said that in recent times, with the support of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese and the Embassy, ​​the associations have continued to strengthen their organizations, carry out many activities to support the community's integration into the host society, stabilize their lives, establish and maintain Vietnamese language classes, enhance people-to-people exchanges, promote culture, and promote investment, thereby contributing to strengthening the friendly cooperative relationship between the two countries and contributing to the homeland of Vietnam.

On this occasion, the people discussed with the delegation about upcoming activity plans, as well as made some suggestions and wishes such as: Requesting the Committee to organize more activities for overseas Vietnamese, continue to support the construction of Vietnamese language bookcases in localities with a large Vietnamese population, increase the disseminationof education to young people about local laws and customs, support the Innovation Network to connect with localities, agencies and organizations in the country, continue to pay attention to the work of praising and rewarding overseas Vietnamese...

Regarding policies and laws, people earnestly wish to regain Vietnamese nationality, while keeping foreign nationality to feel secure in doing business and living abroad, as well as to increasingly attach themselves to and contribute more to the cause of protecting and developing the country.

Chairman of the Committee Nguyen Trung Kien answered some questions from the people; affirmed that our Party and State always respect the contributions of overseas Vietnamese to the country and pay special attention and care to our compatriots abroad.

Recently, a number of policies for overseas Vietnamese have continued to be specified, including three amended laws passed by the National Assembly , including the Identity Law, Housing Law, and Land Law.

Currently, the National Assembly is researching, considering amending and promulgating more than 30 draft laws in many fields, of which the Law on Nationality is being proposed to be amended in the direction of creating more favorable conditions for foreigners and the Vietnamese community abroad when carrying out procedures to acquire or regain Vietnamese nationality, meeting the legitimate aspirations of our compatriots abroad.

The Chairman of the Committee shared the difficulties of the community and expressed his hope that people would continue to promote the spirit of solidarity to build the Vietnamese community in Korea to grow stronger and stronger, while emphasizing the role of associations in supporting people in difficult circumstances, promoting awareness of law compliance, understanding of culture and language, thereby strengthening the good image and position of the local community.

The Chairman of the Committee encouraged the Vietnamese Student Association in Korea, with its dynamism and pioneering spirit, to actively encourage members to participate in teaching Vietnamese to overseas Vietnamese children, promote cultural and sports movements and support the community in addition to studying and career guidance.

Expressing his wish to invite overseas Vietnamese to attend programs and events that the Committee will host and coordinate to organize on the occasion of the upcoming 80th anniversary of National Day, September 2, the Chairman of the Committee also presented the General Association of Vietnamese in Korea with nearly 400 books on teaching and learning Vietnamese, books on history, culture, Vietnamese comics, etc. to support community classes, contributing to promoting the teaching and learning of Vietnamese in the area.

At the meeting, Vietnamese Consul General in Busan Doan Phuong Lan expressed her joy at meeting the people for the first time, sharing about the plan to establish the Consulate General; affirmed that community work is one of the key tasks of the Representative Office and is ready to accompany, support and coordinate with the people in implementing community activities in the coming time.

The delegation visited the headquarters of PLKOREA TRADING CO., LTD in Incheon of the family of Mr. Vu Mao, an overseas Vietnamese who has lived and worked in Korea since the early 2010s. Mr. Vu Mao was moved when the delegation visited; shared about the difficulties in business since starting his career and expressed that although living in Korea, his feelings always ached for his homeland.

Chairman of the Committee Nguyen Trung Kien highly appreciated his efforts, encouraged him and his family to overcome obstacles to continue developing their business, maintain Vietnamese cultural traditions and join hands with associations to support compatriots in difficult circumstances in Korea.

The working delegation listened to and noted the opinions and suggestions of the people and affirmed that in the coming time, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese will continue to closely coordinate with relevant agencies in implementing community work, thereby increasingly better meeting the legitimate wishes and aspirations of the people.
