Working with farmers to develop sustainable agriculture.

Despite facing numerous challenges in accessing the market, for the past 10 years, Michiannai Microbial Joint Stock Company (Tay Luong commune, Tien Hai district) has persistently continued to produce and apply its products in practice on the fields to convince partners and farmers. The company's goal is to improve soil, regenerate diverse ecosystems, create a safe production environment for farmers, produce high-quality agricultural products, and help farmers prosper and develop sustainably.

Leaders of Michiannai Microbiology Joint Stock Company introduce organic fertilizer products to customers right at the production plant.

Michiannai is a company specializing in the production of microbial preparations and organic fertilizers used in intensive rice and crop cultivation, as well as livestock, poultry, and aquaculture farming. The products are manufactured using biotechnology, with the main ingredients being livestock and poultry manure to create an organic base combined with microbial strains that process indigestible substances in the soil, promoting plant growth, development, flowering, and fruiting.

Mr. Cao Ba Muon, Deputy General Director of the company, said: "Currently, we have 12 different products, including 4 liquid products and the rest in powder form. The outstanding advantage of our microbial preparations and organic fertilizers is that they decompose organic matter, provide nutrients, increase soil porosity and fertility, and enhance the plant's resistance to pests, diseases, drought, and salinity. These biological preparations are used to treat by-products and waste in farming and livestock, treat polluted water sources, decompose excess feed, and reduce toxic gas emissions from pond bottoms, helping aquatic life to be healthy and grow quickly."

Not only is it good for crops and livestock, using Michiannai's microbial products and organic fertilizers is also safe for farmers' health. As one of many farmers in Tien Hai who have used them, Ms. Vu Thi Huong, from Tra Ly village, Dong Quy commune, shared: "My family cultivates 5 sao (approximately 0.5 hectares) of rice. After 6 years of using Michiannai's organic fertilizers, I find the soil is loose and porous, not hard and compacted like when using chemical fertilizers. When planting, it feels cool to the touch because the soil is finer and the cultivation layer is deeper than before. Because we no longer use inorganic fertilizers and herbicides, after each planting season, I no longer experience allergic reactions, rashes, or sores on my hands and feet. Even better, rice yields have increased; for example, the Bac Thom No. 7 rice variety yields 2.7 - 3 quintals/sao, and the rice is delicious with a richer aroma and flavor compared to conventional farming methods."
Michiannai Microbial Joint Stock Company's products have many advantages and bring benefits to farmers, but in recent times, the company has faced difficulties in accessing and expanding its market. The main reason is that the fertilizer application process has changed significantly compared to how local farmers use inorganic fertilizers. The biggest barrier is the high production cost; typically, farmers spend about 450,000 - 500,000 VND per sao (approximately 1000 square meters) of rice, but using Michiannai fertilizers and biological products for care, pest and disease control costs about 900,000 VND per sao.

To demonstrate the economic effectiveness and persuade farmers to use organic and microbial products, Michiannai Microbial Joint Stock Company organized demonstration models. Specifically, the company directly organized production on 14 hectares and established production linkages and guaranteed rice purchase agreements with farmers in several localities in Tien Hai district, covering a total area of 25 hectares.

Mr. To Dinh Trieu, General Director of the company, stated: "In reality, production using the Michiannai microbial product and organic fertilizer has proven to increase rice yield by 20% compared to traditional methods. The rice quality meets ISO 22000:2018 certification for food safety and high nutritional content. Through testing, 1 kg of rice contains 5.21 mg of vitamin B5, 0.83% fat, 8.61% protein, and 76.6% glucose. Specifically for areas where earthworms are harvested, the use of microbial products and organic fertilizer helps rice grow well, provides ground cover to cool the soil, improves soil quality, and creates food for earthworms, resulting in higher earthworm yields, reaching approximately 40-45 kg/sao (1 sao = 360 square meters), generating an income of over 20 million VND/sao/year."

With 39 hectares of land cultivated using organic farming methods, Michiannai Microbiology Joint Stock Company harvests over 400 tons of paddy rice annually, yielding nearly 250 tons of milled rice after processing. Michiannai's Thai Binh 3T branded rice averages 250,000 - 300,000 VND per 10 kg, while rice produced from the area where earthworms are raised fetches 500,000 VND per 10 kg. The company's rice products are primarily sold in Thai Binh, Quang Ninh, Hanoi, and Lang Son, catering to tourists and high-income consumers. Currently, the company is preparing to process and package 120 kg of sample rice for export to Europe, negotiating with several partners with the aim of exporting rice to this demanding but potentially lucrative market.

Each year, Michiannai Microbial Joint Stock Company produces and sells over 5,000 tons of organic fertilizers and microbial products, generating revenue of 25 billion VND. Based on the successful demonstration model and the practical benefits in terms of economic value and health safety for farmers and consumers, the company hopes that the market for its fertilizers, microbial products, and high-quality rice will expand in the future.
