According to RT, the second round of direct negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations lasted more than an hour on June 2 in Istanbul, Turkey. It is known that right before the negotiations took place, the heads of the Russian and Ukrainian delegations had an unannounced bilateral meeting.
"There was a private meeting between me and Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, which played an important role in facilitating the broader negotiations," Medinsky told reporters, without providing further details.
An unnamed source told RT that the bilateral meeting lasted about two and a half hours.
During the Russia-Ukraine talks in Istanbul on June 2, the two sides exchanged a memorandum outlining their proposals to resolve the conflict.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr. Medinsky said that the Ukrainian delegation had received the Russian draft for review and was expected to give an official response later.
The two sides also agreed on the largest prisoner exchange ever. "The exchange will include at least 1,000 people from each side, possibly more, including all seriously wounded and seriously ill prisoners as well as those under 25 years old," the head of the Russian delegation said.
