To commemorate the 950th anniversary of the founding of the Temple of Literature (1076-2026), the Vietnam Film Development Promotion Association (VFDA), in collaboration with the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and the Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam Cultural and Scientific Activities Center, officially launched the short film competition "Today's Talents."
This is a meaningful activity aimed at honoring the tradition of national education, spreading the spirit of learning, and inspiring the desire to contribute among the younger generation in the new era.
Inspired by the Temple of Literature, Vietnam's first university, the competition aims to connect heritage with contemporary life through the language of cinema.
On behalf of the organizing committee, Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan - President of VFDA - expressed her hope that the works would tell inspiring stories about knowledge, teachers, creativity, community responsibility, and the aspirations of today's youth.
"The competition also contributes to realizing the orientation of building Hanoi into a capital city based on cultural, civilized, modern, and happy values, in which culture and people are considered the center of development," she said.
Entries can be in the form of feature films, documentaries, animation, or a combination of these creative forms. The content should revolve around the spirit of learning, the role of knowledge in the digital age, the image of teachers past and present, as well as exemplary individuals in learning, research, and creativity.
Vietnamese citizens, both in Vietnam and abroad, aged 15 and above, are eligible to participate, with strong encouragement for young filmmakers and students.
One of the notable aspects of this year's competition is the permission to use AI technology in the creative process, with a maximum ratio of less than 20% of the total film duration, equivalent to half a minute to three minutes for short films of 3-15 minutes.
This regulation was praised by program advisors as demonstrating an open-minded approach to new technologies, encouraging young people to utilize AI as an effective and cost-efficient creative tool, while ensuring the artistic value and personal touch of their work.
Film entries must be between 3 and 15 minutes long, in Full HD or higher format, and suitable for distribution on digital platforms and public screenings. The submission period runs from May 13th to August 10th, 2026.
The total prize value is attractive, with a first prize of 50 million VND, along with many other awards such as Creative Idea and Most Popular Film. Outstanding works will be screened at the closing ceremony and widely disseminated on the organizers' media platforms. Specific prize rules can be found here .
Mr. Bui Duy Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, affirmed that the city is also striving to realize the goal of building Hanoi into a center for creativity and developing cultural industries associated with the preservation and promotion of heritage values.
Therefore, the film competition aims not only to create a creative playground for young filmmakers, but also to contribute to connecting heritage with contemporary life, inspiring creativity from the nation's tradition of valuing education and its spirit of appreciating talent.
