Portuguese media reported that former Vietnam national team coach Henrique Calisto has just been elected as President of the Portuguese National Coaches Association (ANTF). This is an organization that represents the rights, interests and voice of Portuguese coaches.
It is worth mentioning that Coach Calisto was one of the founders of the Portuguese National Coaches Association in 1986. He served as President of this Association, before leaving the position to pursue a coaching career.
Now, at the age of 71, Coach Calisto has decided to return to this role. Speaking to the press, the coach born in 1953 said: “This is not my victory alone, but that of all those who believe that the Portuguese coach deserves respect and protection.

I decided to take on this responsibility to serve coaches at all levels, from amateur to professional, from men's football to women's football. We want ANTF to represent the best coaches in the world , from the world's leading coaching schools."
President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, sent a letter of congratulations to coach Henrique Calisto on being elected as President of the Portuguese National Coaches Association.
The letter reads: “Your assumption of the position of ANTF President after many years of dedication to Portuguese and international football, especially your great contributions to Vietnamese football, is a testament to the respect and trust that the Portuguese coaching community has for you.
We cannot forget the deep impressions he left in the history of Vietnamese football, especially the miracle of winning the AFF Cup 2008. His dedication, professionalism and ability to inspire have contributed significantly to the development of Vietnamese football, not only at the national team level but also in the training of coaches and Vietnamese youth football.
We believe that with his experience and enthusiasm, he will lead ANTF to develop more strongly, contributing to enhancing the position of Portuguese coaches in the international arena."
Coach Calisto led the Vietnamese team in two periods (2002 and 2008-2011). He helped the "Golden Dragons" win the AFF Cup 2008. He also led the U23 Vietnam team to win the silver medal at the 2009 SEA Games and third place at the 2010 AFF Cup. In addition, the Portuguese coach helped Dong Tam Long An Brick Club win two V-League championships in 2005 and 2006.
