The Da Nang Museum (located at 42 Bach Dang Street) created a "buzz" among the public when it first opened.

Unique values

In recent years, the former Quang Nam province and Da Nang city have emerged as unique destinations for museum tourism, even though this type of tourism is quite selective in terms of its clientele.

A distinctive feature that makes many museums in Quang Nam province stand out to tourists is their focus on specific themes, with in-depth exhibitions and experiences that allow the public to both admire and discover the values of the region.

The Cham Sculpture Museum (Hai Chau ward) has long been considered by experts to be the largest museum nationwide dedicated to Cham culture.

Meanwhile, the Da Nang Museum of Fine Arts specializes in preserving and promoting the artistic heritage values of the locality as well as the Central region.

In Hoi An, most museums are small in scale, but each museum contains unique knowledge in its respective field, making these destinations rarely short of visitors. These include the Museum of Traditional Medicine, the Museum of Folk Culture, the Sa Huynh Culture Museum, the Trade Ceramics Museum, the Hoi An Local Products Museum… (all located in Hoi An ward).

Mentioning Quang Nam immediately evokes images of a land rich in revolutionary traditions in the minds of tourists. The Da Nang Museum (Hai Chau Ward) and the Quang Nam Museum (Ban Thach Ward) are two destinations that deeply convey this theme to the public.

In addition, several museums located within tourist destinations also attract a large number of visitors, such as the My Son Museum (My Son Temple Complex) and the Wax Museum (Ba Na Hills Tourist Area)...

A thriving business attracts customers.

In the first half of this year, museum tourism in Da Nang city continued to make new strides.

Opening its doors to visitors at its new location (42 Bach Dang Street) on April 1st, the Da Nang Museum has created a sensation among the public with its eye-catching design and captivating storytelling, combining modern technology with traditional decor.

Mr. Cao Tri Dung, interim Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association, commented that the Da Nang Museum is one of the museums in Vietnam that has implemented AI very well to serve tourists. It can be considered one of the largest museums in the Central region, not only in terms of investment scale, space, and artifacts, but also in its very appropriate and effective application of technology.

In the first six months of the year, this museum welcomed nearly 130,000 visitors (a 122% increase compared to the same period last year). Other museums in the former Da Nang city area also experienced good growth. The Cham Sculpture Museum welcomed nearly 115,000 visitors (a 10% increase compared to the same period last year), while the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum welcomed over 25,000 visitors (a 68% increase compared to the same period last year).

Meanwhile, a new feature of the thematic museum system in Hoi An is the opening of the Hoi An Local Products Museum (December 2024). By conveying the rich knowledge of Quang Nam's medicinal plant treasure trove and the bustling medicinal plant trade route of the past, this museum quickly attracts visitors, especially foreign tourists.

In the first six months of the year, museums and historical sites in Hoi An Old Town, directly managed by the Hoi An Cultural Heritage Conservation Management Center, welcomed over 867,000 visitors (a 20% increase compared to the same period last year), including more than 810,000 international visitors.

Mr. Pham Phu Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Hoi An Cultural Heritage Conservation Management Center, said that to keep museums fresh, especially for the local community, the center regularly organizes experiential activities to help students better understand the local history and culture. These include: a "Tet Market"; introductions to the processing of traditional jams such as coconut jam and ginger jam; activities like drawing and decorating paper lanterns; and activities like making Do paper paintings… Through these activities, the museums have added vibrancy to their atmosphere.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Trinh, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Museum of Fine Arts, since the beginning of the year, the museum has held eight exhibitions in diverse formats, including direct displays at the museum, online exhibitions, and mobile exhibitions. In addition, the museum has launched the online exhibition space “DNFAM ONLINE GALLERY,” marking a step forward in applying technology and artificial intelligence to museum operations to more effectively serve the public's cultural access needs in the digital age.
