According to ancient custom, on the Wind-Avoiding Festival (the 4th day of the 4th lunar month), the Thanh Phan Dao people leave their homes early in the morning to allow the wind god to enter, taking away misfortune and bringing in good fortune, prosperity, and happiness. On this day, the Thanh Phan Dao people temporarily set aside their work, not going to the fields or farming, but instead they celebrate, socialize, drink alcohol, and make friends.

This year's Wind-Avoiding Festival is organized with many rich and unique activities, contributing to the preservation and promotion of the traditional cultural values of the ethnic groups in the northeasternmost region of the country.
The highlight of the opening ceremony was the welcoming art program featuring spectacular performances that vividly recreated the traditional cultural life of the ethnic groups in the area.
In particular, the program featured an art troupe from Fangcheng District (Fangcheng Port City, Guangxi Province, China) with unique exchange performances, contributing to strengthening solidarity and friendship between the people on both sides of the border.

In addition, many lively folk sports activities were organized, such as tug-of-war, stick pushing, and inter-village spinning top competitions; and a competition for designing patterns on the traditional costumes of the Dao Thanh Phan ethnic group, creating a joyful and united atmosphere of competition.
The most anticipated events at the Wind-Avoiding Festival were the pho stir-fry competition among business households and the culinary competition between 22 villages, which attracted enthusiastic participation from the competing teams.
This is not only an opportunity to celebrate the distinctive traditional dishes of the locality but also contributes to promoting the culinary culture of Quang Ninh to tourists from near and far.

Within the framework of the program, many meaningful activities were implemented, such as: introducing the Cao Ba Lanh historical, cultural and scenic site at the provincial level; announcing the decision to recognize 26 Vietnamese Heritage Trees; displaying and promoting OCOP products; along with a series of summer-autumn tourism activities and the "Cao Ly Moon Night" program held regularly on the 15th day of the lunar month at Cao Ly peak.
The opening ceremony of the 2026 Wind-Avoiding Festival marked the beginning of a series of attractive cultural, sports, and tourism activities, thereby contributing to the promotion of local socio-economic development and building an increasingly prosperous and distinctive image of Quang Ninh.
