The Standing Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Council has just issued Circular No. 87/TB-HĐTS guiding all levels of the Sangha, monasteries, and monks, nuns, and Buddhist followers to organize the Great Buddha's Birthday Celebration, Buddhist Calendar 2570 (Gregorian Calendar 2026).

The event is an opportunity to honor noble human values, while affirming the engaged spirit and responsibility of Buddhism towards the cause of building and protecting the nation.
The commemoration of Buddha's birthday is not only a shared joy for monks, nuns, and Buddhists, but also a global religious festival honored by the United Nations, aiming to spread the values of peace and humanity to all mankind.
The grand celebration takes place from the 1st to the 15th of the 4th lunar month (May 17th to 31st, 2026). Within this, the Buddha's Birthday Week begins from the 8th to the 15th of the 4th lunar month; the main ceremony will be held solemnly on the 15th of the 4th lunar month of the Year of the Horse (May 31st, 2026). Depending on the local situation, the various levels of the Buddhist Sangha may organize a single day of celebration or extend it throughout the entire week.
Besides the traditional Buddhist bathing ritual at monasteries, the Buddhist Church encourages Buddhist families to place Buddhist bathing basins in solemn places in their homes, creating a pure spiritual space for praying for the well-being of the people.
In particular, at 4:00 AM on the 8th and 15th of April in the lunar calendar, all temples and monasteries nationwide will simultaneously ring the Bát Nhã bells three times, creating a sacred sound that connects people's hearts and directs them towards virtuous deeds.
Upholding the tradition of "Serving sentient beings is the most practical way to offer homage to the Buddha," the Great Buddha's Birthday Celebration in the Buddhist calendar year 2570 is closely linked to social welfare activities. The various levels of the Buddhist Sangha will organize wreath-laying ceremonies to commemorate fallen heroes and martyrs; visit and present gifts to families who have contributed to the revolution, wounded and sick soldiers, disabled children, and elderly people living alone.
To ensure the Grand Festival is a resounding success, the Standing Committee of the Council of Trustees reminds local Boards of Trustees to proactively coordinate closely with relevant authorities to ensure security and order, fire prevention and control, and food safety and hygiene at festival venues.
