Miroshnik emphasized that, through the official statements of EU leaders and the E3 group (UK, Germany, France), it is clear that there is an uncompromising desire to derail all forms of negotiation, while rejecting political and diplomatic avenues for resolving the conflict.
According to him, while European countries claim to want dialogue, they are simultaneously imposing further sanctions, providing billions of euros in loans to Ukraine, launching soldier training programs, and supplying weapons.
"There's an old rule: Look at what politicians do, not what they say. The EU's actions show absolutely no intention of following the path of peace," Miroshnik asserted.
He also argued that simply saying "it would be good to negotiate with Russia" is not enough; action is needed to demonstrate that the EU is ready to stop funding the bloodshed in Ukraine.
He emphasized: "It's no secret that if Western funding stops, the war will end. This is acknowledged both in the West and by outside observers. However, Western countries continue to supply weapons and finances to Ukraine."
According to the Financial Times, EU foreign ministers are expected to discuss potential candidates for mediating negotiations with Russia at an informal meeting on May 27-28 in Cyprus.
The candidates mentioned include former Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and his predecessor Sauli Niinisto.
Earlier, on May 9th, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in response to a journalist's question, stated that former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder was Russia's preferred candidate for potential negotiations between the EU and Russia. Putin affirmed that Russia has never closed the door to negotiations.
