( Bqp.vn ) - On the morning of November 3, in Hanoi, General Department II held a conference to hand over the responsibilities and tasks of the Director General of General Department II. General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense attended and directed the conference.

Attending the conference were Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army; representatives of the Ministry of National Defense's functional agencies; and comrades in the Standing Committee and Party Committee of General Department II.

Implementing the decisions of the Prime Minister and the Minister of National Defense on personnel work and the direction of the Central Military Commission Standing Committee, at the conference, Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Hung handed over the responsibilities and tasks of the General Director to Lieutenant General Tran Cong Chinh, Political Commissar of General Department II.

Speaking at the conference, General Phan Van Giang acknowledged and highly appreciated Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Hung, in his position as Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, General Director, Head of the Intelligence Steering Committee of General Department II, and Chief of Military Intelligence and Reconnaissance of the entire army, for working with the Standing Committee, Party Committee, and Commander of General Department II to lead and direct the General Department and the entire Defense Intelligence Sector to complete all aspects of work well and comprehensively, with many aspects excellently completing the central political tasks. The position, prestige, and role of Defense Intelligence are increasingly enhanced.

Assigning the task of General Director of General Department II to Lieutenant General Tran Cong Chinh, General Phan Van Giang hoped that in his new position, Lieutenant General Tran Cong Chinh would continue to strive, practice, and promote revolutionary ethics, further improve his working capacity, and together with the Standing Committee, Party Committee, and Command of General Department II, lead and direct the unit and the entire Industry to successfully carry out all assigned tasks; worthy of the trust, entrustment, and assignment of tasks from above to him personally and the entire force.

Agreeing with the content of the handover minutes and the opinions expressed at the conference, General Phan Van Giang highly appreciated the leadership, direction, responsibility, and spirit of solidarity and unity in the Standing Committee, Party Committee, and command of General Department II. The Minister requested that, in order to meet the requirements and tasks in the coming time, the Defense Intelligence Service must always proactively grasp the situation, improve its research and strategic forecasting capabilities; promptly advise the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense on appropriate policies and measures to firmly protect the Fatherland "early and from afar", absolutely not to be passive or surprised; well perform the functions and tasks of comprehensive strategic intelligence, increase the effectiveness of consulting and proposing to contribute to promoting the cause of industrialization, modernization, economic, cultural and social development; make worthy contributions to the successful implementation of the strategic goals of the Party, the State and the Army.
