Dak Lak strives to improve the quality and safety of agricultural, forestry and fishery products

On the morning of May 16, the Department of Agriculture and Environment held a conference on strengthening food quality and safety management; solutions to improve the quality of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the province in the coming time.

    The conference was chaired by Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Van Ha. Also attending were representatives of the Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Product Quality Management of Phu Tho and Quang Ninh provinces; leaders of relevant departments, branches, units and enterprises in Dak Lak.

    Agriculture, forestry and fishery play an important role in the economic structure of Dak Lak province, contributing 36.8% of the province's gross regional domestic product (GRDP). Agricultural exports, especially coffee, rubber, pepper, cashew, and durian, account for over 90% of the province's total export turnover. The agricultural sector also provides jobs for nearly 70% of the local workforce...

    Realizing the importance of food safety, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dak Lak province has assigned specific management tasks to specialized departments, ensuring a closed process from production to consumption. Propaganda and dissemination of laws have been promoted through many forms. In the period of 2022 - 2024, 251 training courses on crop cultivation and veterinary husbandry were organized, with 10,475 participants and 15 conferences on propaganda on food safety of agriculture, forestry and fishery, with 450 participants...

    To date, Dak Lak has 616 establishments granted food safety certificates in the fields of cultivation, livestock and aquaculture. Currently, the whole province has built 123 linkage chains implemented by authorities at all levels, in addition to about 10 chains linked by enterprises and farmers themselves.

    The whole province also has about 150 agricultural cooperatives that have production and product consumption links with enterprises; about 34 enterprises and 276 farms and family farms participate in the linkage; the number of farmer households participating in the linkage is about 15,525 households; there are 5 scientific organizations participating in the linkage.

    The construction of production linkages according to value chains is being paid attention to and implemented by all levels, sectors as well as enterprises, cooperatives and farmers in the province, bringing certain efficiency, contributing significantly to the management and improvement of product quality.

    The Dak Lak agricultural sector has also strengthened inspection and examination of production and trading activities of agricultural, forestry and fishery products. In 2024 and the first 4 months of 2025, the Dak Lak agricultural sector inspected 100 establishments, sanctioned 10 establishments for violations with a total fine of nearly 195 million VND...

    Besides positive results, quality management and food safety in Dak Lak still have many limitations such as: the rate of production according to the chain, according to certified standards and traceability is still low; many production and business establishments are still small, fragmented, and do not fully comply with food safety regulations; inspection and sampling in production areas are difficult due to lack of cooperation from the people...

    At the conference, delegates focused on discussing and proposing solutions to strengthen the management of quality and safety of agricultural, forestry and fishery products. In particular, focusing on solutions to develop safe production areas, build ecosystems in agricultural production, promote product value chain linkages to strictly control input and output quality...

    Speaking at the conference, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Van Ha emphasized: In the context of global economic integration, improving the quality of agricultural products and meeting food safety standards is a mandatory and inevitable requirement. Therefore, it is required that relevant sectors, units and localities coordinate synchronously to remove current shortcomings and limitations in food quality and safety management. At the same time, promote the linkage chain, in which enterprises are the center to bring Dak Lak agricultural products to the global market.

    In particular, there will be specific solutions to the problems that durian products are facing so that businesses and farmers can feel secure in production and export purchases.
