Notably, of the 989 fires with identified causes, nearly 75% were caused by electrical system and equipment failures.
The obvious reason is that the implementation of electrical safety measures in small production and business establishments and households has not been properly promoted. Many people are still subjective in using electricity.
Mr. Tran The Vinh, safety officer of Dong Hoa Electricity Management Team, said that when checking the electrical systems of many households, electricity workers discovered many old, blackened electrical outlets with cracked wires that were still in use; leaving fans in curtains, placing TVs on refrigerators, and plugging in rice cookers all day long… all pose a high risk of electrical incidents, which can easily cause fires and explosions.

Mr. Huynh Dang Toan, Head of Safety Department ( Dak Lak Electricity Company) said that familiar devices such as fans, refrigerators, air conditioners, electric stoves, etc., when operating at the same time, can easily overload the electrical system, especially in households with degraded power lines or using wires with incorrect capacity. Unfortunately, many people are still subjective, allowing these potentially risky habits to exist in daily life.
In fact, most fires in residential areas are related to the electrical system, causing great damage to property and the lives of many people. In particular, in the hot weather conditions occurring in many areas of the province, the demand for electrical cooling equipment increases, leading to the risk of electrical short circuits and fires.
"To ensure electrical safety and prevent fires and explosions, everyone must consider safe use of electricity a regular responsibility, like locking the door every night, then unfortunate incidents can truly be prevented" - Mr. , Deputy Director of Dak Lak Electricity Company. |
As a unit managing, operating and supplying electricity, Dak Lak electricity sector not only focuses on ensuring safe and stable electricity supply but also regularly coordinates with functional agencies and local authorities to propagate and guide people on safe electricity use. In recent times, electricity officers and employees have regularly "gone to every alley, knocked on every door" to propagate and guide households on how to use electricity safely, supporting people to detect and repair technical errors of the electrical system in their homes and production facilities.
During the campaign to promote electricity safety that was launched in early May, workers from the Dong Hoa Electricity Management Team supported the inspection of the electrical system behind the meter for many households in Hoa Hiep ward and Hoa Xuan commune.
Ms. Pham Thi Hoa in Hoa Xuan commune shared: “For a long time, I did not pay much attention to the electrical wires or electrical outlets in my house. Recently, when the electric workers came to check and discovered a melted wire near the outlet, I was startled, fortunately it did not cause a serious short circuit. In addition to checking the electrical system in my house, the workers also instructed me on how to use electrical equipment properly.”

Mr. Tran Van Huynh, Head of Dong Hoa Electricity Management Team, informed that the program "Going to every alley, knocking on every door" has been implemented by the unit for many years. Since the beginning of the year, the unit has organized inspection and propaganda forces in a number of communes and wards in the area under its management; at the same time, it has supported the inspection of the electrical system and helped fix technical errors for more than 1,000 households.
During each periodic inspection or receiving information from customers, the electricity industry always recommends that people regularly check the electrical system in their homes, replace old wires, install appropriate circuit breakers, avoid arbitrary connections, etc. These are simple things but bring great effectiveness in preventing incidents.
