Notably, of the 989 fires whose causes were identified, nearly 75% were due to malfunctions in electrical systems and equipment.
The most obvious reason is that the implementation of electrical safety measures in small-scale production and business establishments and households has not been given due importance. Many people are still careless in their use of electricity.
According to Mr. Tran The Vinh, a safety officer of the Dong Hoa Electricity Management Team, when inspecting the household electrical systems of many residents, electricity company employees discovered many old, blackened electrical outlets with cracked insulation that were still in use; leaving electric fans inside mosquito nets, placing televisions on top of refrigerators, and leaving rice cookers plugged in all day... all pose a high risk of electrical accidents and easily cause fires and explosions.

Mr. Huynh Dang Toan, Head of Safety Department ( Dak Lak Power Company), said that familiar appliances such as electric fans, refrigerators, air conditioners, electric stoves, etc., when operating simultaneously, can easily overload the electrical system, especially in households with degraded power lines or using wires that are not rated for the correct capacity. Unfortunately, many people remain careless, allowing these potentially risky habits to persist in their daily lives.
In reality, the majority of fires in residential areas are related to electrical systems, causing significant property damage and loss of life. Especially with the current hot weather in many areas of the province, the increased demand for electrical cooling equipment further increases the risk of electrical short circuits and fires.
"To ensure electrical safety and prevent fires and explosions, everyone must consider safe electricity use as a regular responsibility, just like locking their doors every night, only then can unfortunate incidents truly be prevented," said Mr. [Name] , Deputy Director of Dak Lak Power Company. |
As the unit responsible for managing, operating, and supplying electricity, the Dak Lak power sector not only focuses on ensuring safe and stable power supply but also regularly coordinates with relevant agencies and local authorities to disseminate information and guide people on safe electricity use. Recently, power sector officials and employees have regularly gone door-to-door to educate and guide households on safe electricity usage, assisting people in detecting and repairing technical faults in their home and production facilities.
During a campaign to promote safe electricity usage launched at the beginning of May, workers from the Dong Hoa Electricity Management Team assisted in inspecting the electrical systems after the meter for many households in Hoa Hiep ward and Hoa Xuan commune.
Ms. Pham Thi Hoa from Hoa Xuan commune shared: “For a long time, I didn't pay much attention to the electrical wires or sockets in my house. Recently, when the electricity workers came to inspect, they discovered a spot where the plastic on a wire near the socket had melted, which startled me. Luckily, it didn't cause a serious short circuit. Besides checking the electrical system in my house, the workers also instructed me on how to use electrical appliances correctly.”

According to Mr. Tran Van Huynh, Team Leader of the Dong Hoa Electricity Management Team, the "Going to Every Alley, Knocking on Every Door" program has been implemented by the unit for many years. Since the beginning of the year, the unit has organized inspection and awareness campaigns in several communes and wards within its jurisdiction; and has assisted in inspecting the electrical system and resolving technical issues for over 1,000 households.
During routine inspections or when receiving feedback from customers, the electricity sector always recommends that people regularly check their home electrical systems, replace old wires, install appropriate circuit breakers, and avoid unauthorized connections. These may seem like simple things, but they are highly effective in preventing accidents.
