Farmers growing Buddha's hand citron in Phuc Tho are getting ready to serve customers for Tet 2025.

(CLO) On the eve of the 2025 Lunar New Year, people in the Buddha's hand citron growing villages of Phuc Tho district ( Hanoi ) are once again busy serving customers who come to buy Buddha's hand citron to offer to their ancestors during this year's traditional Tet holiday.

As the Lunar New Year of the Snake 2025 approaches, farmers in famous ornamental plant-growing villages in Hanoi such as Tu Lien, Nhat Tan, Me Linh, Phuc Tho... are busy tending to, pruning, and serving customers who come to buy plants to decorate their homes for this year's traditional Tet holiday.

As Tet (Lunar New Year) 2025 approaches, Buddha's hand citron growers in Phuc Tho are busy serving customers.

In the Buddha's hand citron village of Phuc Tho district (Hanoi), on the afternoon of January 13th, many gardeners were busy tending to their trees and welcoming customers before the 2025 Tet holiday.

Reporters visited the Buddha's hand citron orchard of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy (34 years old, owner of Thanh Thuy orchard, with an area of ​​5 acres and more than 1,000 trees). Ms. Thuy said: "Because the geological conditions in this area are quite high, our orchard was not significantly affected by Typhoon Yagi . We basically managed to preserve most of the trees, but due to the strong winds, many of the first batch of Buddha's hand citrons fell off. Currently, only the later rows have a relatively sparse number of fruit."

"Before this year's Lunar New Year, our orchard mainly supplied wholesale customers around Hanoi and shipped to provinces/cities nationwide, so most fruit varieties had many orders. As for retail customers, our orchard has a stable customer base throughout the year, and we welcome both retail and wholesale customers year-round," added Ms. Thuy.

Buddha's hand fruit comes in many varieties, and its size determines the price of each product.

Regarding the price of Buddha's hand fruit, Ms. Thuy said that depending on the size and shape, the price ranges from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of dong. In particular, Thanh Thuy's garden also offers mini Buddha's hand fruits priced from 20,000 to 30,000 dong, readily available for customers.

"Almost every year, our orchard sells out all the Buddha's hand citron we have in the garden, except for customers who place orders to use for offerings after the Lunar New Year or to resell after the New Year, in which case we will set some aside," Ms. Thuy said.

In fact, despite being affected by typhoon number 3, the price of high-quality Buddha's hand fruit (large size) has still increased by 20% to 30% compared to previous years, while the prices of average and smaller sizes remain the same as in previous years.

Regarding the price of Buddha's hand fruit before the 15th day of the 12th lunar month (December), Ms. Thuy said that, similar to last year's 15th day, the price remains unchanged. "The number of customers coming to buy Buddha's hand fruit as Tet approaches is increasing. Many customers placed orders after typhoon number 3 to use for the 15th day of the 12th lunar month and the traditional Tet holiday. Currently, from now until Tet, I hope for good weather so that business will be good and my family can have more money to cover living expenses," Ms. Thuy confided.

According to Ms. Thuy, the price of high-quality Buddha's hand fruit (large size) has increased by 20% to 30% this year compared to previous years.

Unlike other plants, the Buddha's hand citron is difficult to cultivate and requires very careful care for it to thrive and bear fruit consistently. On average, a Buddha's hand citron tree has a lifespan of about 4-6 years, depending on weather conditions. Therefore, each gardener must have a backup plan to ensure a sufficient supply of saplings to meet the demand for annual holidays and festivals.

Therefore, to produce the Buddha's hand fruit we have today for the market, each farmer must have invested a great deal of effort and money in caring for the trees. Hopefully, the Lunar New Year 2025 will be a bountiful year for the farmers of Dac So village in particular, and for farmers in other provinces and cities in general.
