Despite having held more than 10 art exhibitions, it was only in the "Drifting" exhibition that Bui Chat gave specific titles to each artwork for the first time, and possibly the only time. "The titles of the paintings are all taken from the titles of poems in the collection 'Where Are We Drifting To?' as a memento, a connection and transformation of different fields within the same subject," the artist revealed.

In the "Drifting" exhibition, Bui Chat continues to pursue an abstract style deeply imbued with poetry and symbolism. According to curator Phan Trong Van: "If Chat's previous paintings tended to be ethereal, dreamlike, and sometimes seem to dissolve between words and form, the 'Drifting' series shows a different movement: richer, clearer, with more forceful pushing and pulling of color… Higher color contrast, bolder 'color pushes,' and especially a wider and deeper range of color frequency – that is, the range of emotional movement of each color – also becomes broader and deeper. This is not only a visual maturation, but also suggests a 'new language' in Bui Chat's abstract journey. His paintings no longer 'drift' aimlessly, but drift with gravity, drifting with memories, with the materials of life that have matured more through contemplation."
According to Bui Chat's own assessment, which is both humorous and serious, his paintings in this exhibition "seem more flavorful." Flavorful in their hues. Flavorful in their mood. And the flavor of life seems to have permeated every layer of color, every brushstroke on each of his meticulously crafted "spiritual children."
The exhibition "Drifting ," featuring 20 oil and mixed-media paintings, runs until July 24th.
