Korean media reported on May 2nd that Phu Quoc, once considered a "hidden gem" two decades ago, is now undergoing a dramatic transformation thanks to the development of tourism infrastructure and the emergence of numerous high-end resorts. This transformation of Phu Quoc can be considered the most spectacular metamorphosis in Vietnam's modern history.

According to statistics, South Korea continues to be one of Vietnam's largest international tourist markets, with millions of visitors each year.

While Da Nang used to be a familiar destination for Korean tourists, the trend is gradually shifting southward, with Phu Quoc being dubbed the "Jeju of Vietnam" by Koreans.

Korean cultural influences are becoming increasingly evident on the island, from K-pop music like Psy's "Gangnam Style" or Rosé's "APT," to signage, menus, and service prioritizing the Korean language at many businesses.

At every restaurant and tourist information counter in Phu Quoc, the text used follows a specific order of priority: Vietnamese first, followed by Korean. English usually comes third, sometimes fourth if Russian is also available.

Besides vibrant entertainment activities, Phu Quoc is also developing high-end resort products, catering to the need for privacy and nature experiences.

Many resorts report that Korean tourists account for a large proportion, in some places exceeding 70% of the total number of visitors. Factors such as safety, convenient transportation, and the expansion of direct flights from Incheon to Phu Quoc are contributing to the influx of tourists from Korea.

Kim Eun Jung, a South Korean tourist visiting Phu Quoc with her husband and two children, aged 11 and 9, said this was her family's second trip to Vietnam, after Nha Trang.

She went with two other classmates, each bringing their own family. They chose Phu Quoc because they felt it was safer and more convenient for children. According to Kim, most of the people she knows have either been there or are planning a trip this summer.

Korean experts believe that the growth of this market plays a crucial role in the island's transformation. Phu Quoc is gradually establishing itself as one of the leading resort destinations in Southeast Asia, while continuing to increase its attractiveness to Korean tourists in the future.
