The way of growing trees, the way of growing people

Ancient Eastern philosophy has long stated: "For a ten-year plan, nothing is better than planting trees. For a lifelong plan, nothing is better than cultivating people." President Ho Chi Minh inherited and developed this into a universally understood saying: "For the benefit of ten years, plant trees; for the benefit of a hundred years, cultivate people." This is not only a principle and a truth, but also a moral code.

Today, due to increasing environmental destruction and severe pollution, tree planting has become urgent. Therefore, calling it the "philosophy of tree planting" is not an exaggeration, as it is closely linked to human survival. A house needs a roof for people to live in. The Earth, our home, needs trees to "roof" it, so that humankind can survive and thrive!

Planting trees in the soil, cultivating people in the cultural soil (i.e., the educational environment) of family, school, and society. Good soil naturally produces good trees and good people. The world is moving towards the slogan "Learn to know, learn to live, learn to live together, learn to do, learn to create," which is a concrete manifestation of the philosophy of learning to be a good person. A healthy educational environment must be created, with the family as the foundation. Because each individual, from childhood to adulthood, is imbued with traditional cultural values from their family. Most great personalities are born from good family values.

The best way to educate is by setting a good example. A child's character will inevitably be influenced and tainted by bad habits if their parents are corrupt, accept bribes, are lazy, etc. The core of the proverb "A child's bad behavior is the mother's fault, a grandchild's bad behavior is the grandmother's fault" is to remind adults that they must be role models for children. At home, grandparents, parents, and older siblings should set an example. At school, teachers should set an example. In society, if adults set a good example, children will certainly develop good character. The educational process must be transformed into self-education in each individual, because each person is both the subject and the object in the process of self-education, adjusting their way of life and behavior.

Educating individuals to develop a sense of self-reliance and cultural awareness is crucial. More attention should be paid to teaching character before teaching academics. "Without a teacher, you can't achieve anything." In any era, schools and teachers determine the quality of education. To have many talented people, we need talented teachers. Investing in education should prioritize investing in teacher training, fundamentally upgrading the system of teacher training colleges. We should encourage talented individuals to enter the education sector. We should gradually improve teachers' living standards so they can have a relatively stable life and feel secure in their profession. Morality is the root of character. Morality is also the root of law. A person with good morals may lack legal knowledge, but they will have a correct understanding of good and evil and will behave according to moral standards.

Therefore, enhancing legal knowledge is also a way to cultivate and educate morality. In today's era of globalization, morality and law are considered the main roots of the tree of human character!
