The movie "Southern Forest Land" sold 900,000 tickets, half of "Godfather" (Tran Thanh) after one week of showing.
According to Box Office Vietnam - an independent box office observer, on the afternoon of October 20, the film reached nearly 76 billion VND, leading the box office rankings after a week of showing. This ticket sales speed is only half of that of Bo Gia - a film that caused a fever at the box office co-produced and starring Tran Thanh, released in 2021 - in the same period.
The box office occupancy rate of Dat Rung Phuong Nam reached 15%, also half of Bo Gia. Nha Ba Nu - Tran Thanh's Tet release - currently holds the record with over 200 billion VND in one week. However, this release was released during Tet, a time when ticket sales are often higher than usual.
On the ticketing systems of major cinema chains such as CGV, Galaxy, Lotte, the work is currently ranked with an overwhelming number of screenings compared to other films released at the same time. At CGV Su Van Hanh - one of the most crowded cinemas in Ho Chi Minh City, Dat Rung Phuong Nam is ranked 27 times a day. Foreign films such as Vang Trang Mau (starring Leonardo Dicaprio), Buoc Chan Thep - a Korean film about a marathon, are ranked one time.

According to Mr. Nguyen Khanh Duong - founder of Box Office Vietnam, the ticket sales speed of Dat Rung Phuong Nam is currently acceptable, in the context of Vietnamese films being sluggish since the beginning of summer until now. Mr. Duong predicts that the work can reach the finish line with revenue equal to Tiec Trang Mau (175 billion VND, released in theaters in October 2020).
Tran Thanh - co-producer - said that the film only broke even after earning over 100 billion VND because the crew invested a large amount of money in the setting and special effects. On October 11, when the film premiered in Ho Chi Minh City, the producer set a revenue target of 300 billion VND to have funds to continue making the following parts. The film crew received support from many units and people from different regions when implementing the project. According to the actor, without everyone's help, the investment capital could have increased to hundreds of billions of VND.

On October 16, the film was released with an edited version of the details that were criticized for being "historically incorrect". The phrase "Nghia Hoa Doan" was changed to "Nam Hoa Doan", "Thien Dia Hoi" to "Chinh Nghia Hoi" in related lines (about three or four sentences).
Southern Forest Land is inspired by the novel by writer Doan Gioi and the film Southern Forest Land directed by Nguyen Vinh Son. The story revolves around An (Hao Khang) - a boy wandering in the West on his way to find his father, in the context of the early 20th century. On that journey, An is helped by many righteous people, learning to accept loss to grow up. The film interweaves the story of An's search for relatives with the uprising movement against French colonialism of the Southern people.
