Successful auction of B2-B2 frequency block'

With the advantage of low frequency and wider coverage than the bands that have been auctioned, the 700 MHz band is considered the "diamond" band.

After two rounds of competitive and public auctions, Viettel won the auction for the right to use the B2-B2 frequency block.

B2-B2' is a frequency block planned to deploy mobile information systems according to the IMT-Advanced standard and subsequent versions, using the frequency division duplex (FDD) method. The starting price of the block is over VND 1,955 billion.

The successful auction of the B2-B2' band is an important premise to promote digital equality, bringing advanced technology to people from urban to rural, mountainous, island, remote and isolated areas. Moreover, this is also a solid foundation to create conditions for businesses to effectively deploy new network generations such as 5G, 6G.

According to Mr. Le Van Tuan, Director of the Radio Frequency Department: "The auction and early exploitation of the 700MHz band is one of the specific solutions to effectively implement the Party's major policies and orientations, especially realizing the goal of "Developing digital infrastructure" clearly stated in Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW".

Nationwide 5G coverage is also one of the key tasks of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW. According to the Government's Report at the 9th Session of the 15th National Assembly on May 5, by the end of the first quarter of 2025, network operators had installed more than 10,000 5G BTS stations and expected to increase 5 times this year.

To promote 5G network coverage, the Ministry of Science and Technology is also seeking opinions on the Draft National Spectrum Plan. Accordingly, some frequency bands currently used for television and satellite services will be added to develop 5G and 6G networks.

In the coming time, the Ministry of Science and Technology will continue to auction the remaining blocks of the 700 MHz band with the goal of supporting widespread mobile information coverage, especially in rural and mountainous areas, and at the same time upgrading the quality of indoor coverage in urban areas.
