The remaining three works by Mai Trung Thu (1906-1980) were once part of the collection of French military doctor Hervé Kerne-vez. The painting is estimated to be worth between 2.5 and 3.8 billion VND.
Mai Trung Thu's "Le balcon" (The balcony) was created in 1945, depicting a girl holding a ticket in her hand, her eyes filled with a distant sadness, reminding viewers of a story of reunion or separation from a fateful bus trip. The painting depicts a girl next to a mirror and comb, with a simple, everyday style of Vietnamese women. The work was created in 1943, measuring 45 x 38 cm.
Mai Trung Thu lives and works mainly in France, his works have been exhibited in many places around the world such as Rome, Milan, Brussels, San Francisco. Many of Mai Trung Thu's paintings cost millions of dollars, such as: "Portrait of Miss Phuong" (3.1 million USD), "Women wearing conical hats by the river" (1.57 million USD).
Painter Mai Trung Thu or Mai Thu, born in 1906 and died in 1980, was a famous French painter of modern Vietnamese art.
