Creating enriching recreational activities during the summer.
In order to create a healthy and beneficial playground for children during the summer, and at the same time equip young people with swimming skills and drowning prevention techniques, from June 1st, Dong Trieu ward (Quang Ninh province) has organized free swimming lessons for students under 16 years old who do not know how to swim in the area.
The activity attracted a large number of students. Through this, it contributed to raising awareness among families, schools, and society regarding child protection and reducing the risk of drowning accidents during the summer.
Right from the first few days of implementation, the classes attracted nearly 100 students registering to participate. This is a positive sign, showing the interest of parents in equipping their children with life skills and drowning prevention skills during the summer.
During the lessons, the children are guided through warm-up exercises, getting used to the water environment, practicing floating, leg kicking techniques, how to breathe underwater, coordinating basic arm and leg movements, and gradually becoming familiar with the breaststroke technique.
In addition, students are equipped with essential knowledge about preventing drowning and skills to handle situations when encountering accidents in the water, contributing to raising their awareness of self-protection.
Equip yourself with the skills to protect yourself.
Having attended the class from the beginning, Pham Viet Hung from Doan Xa 1 neighborhood shared: “This is my second swimming lesson. In class, the instructors guided me very specifically on everything from warm-up exercises, floating techniques, leg kicks, to breathing techniques underwater. I find learning to swim very meaningful because it not only helps me learn another sport but also equips me with skills to protect myself and prevent the risk of drowning.”

Joining the class, Vu Thuy Chi, from Ward 2, said that through the media and social networks, she has seen many drowning accidents involving children recently. Therefore, she registered for the class to equip herself with the necessary skills. She believes that knowing how to swim is not only a sport but also an important skill to protect oneself in life.
Not only were the students enthusiastic about participating, but the program also received the approval and support of many parents.
“I learned about the class through the Dong Trieu ward Facebook page. When I saw that the local authorities were organizing free swimming lessons for children, I was very excited and immediately registered my grandchild to participate. This is a very practical activity, providing children with more recreational activities during the summer, while also equipping them with necessary skills to prevent drowning accidents,” said Ms. Dang Thi Luyen from Thu Duong area.
According to the plan, the swimming lessons will be divided into two sessions; session 1 will take place from June 1-15, and session 2 from June 16-30.
Organizing free swimming lessons for children is a practical activity that demonstrates the concern of local Party committees and authorities for the care and protection of children.
This will contribute to increasing the percentage of children who know how to swim, equipping them with skills to prevent drowning, and helping them have a safe, enriching, and meaningful summer.
In Quang Ninh , the movement to provide free swimming lessons for students is regularly maintained by many units and localities, linked to the goal of preventing drowning and improving life skills for children.
