Attending the conference were 47 heads of state, heads of government of Europe and leaders of international organizations such as President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, President of the Council of the European Union (EU) Charles Michel, President of the European Parliament (EP) Roberta Metsola, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Mark Rutte. In addition, the conference was also attended by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

The fifth EPC summit, hosted by Hungary, which holds the rotating EU presidency, focused on the challenges facing Europe, including the Ukraine conflict, escalating instability in the Middle East and North Africa, illegal migration and economic security. European leaders also discussed topics such as energy connectivity, transport, information technology and global trade.

In his opening remarks, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stressed that Europe is in a difficult situation because of the Ukraine conflict, while the threat of escalating conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa and illegal migration are once again reaching a peak, posing challenges for Europe.

He stressed that the world economy is becoming fragmented and stagnant, all of which are threatening peace and prosperity in Europe. The contents achieved at this Conference could decide the future of Europe for decades.

The EPC is an informal platform, to be held for the first time in Prague in October 2022 when the Czech Republic holds the rotating EU Presidency, to promote political dialogue in Europe and contribute to regional stability, security and prosperity.
