Five years ago, the Tran De Ethnic Boarding School and Junior High School in Tran De district was built and put into operation, providing nearly 300 Khmer ethnic minority students in the area with better learning conditions. The school has three sections: a learning area, an administrative area, and especially a boarding area with a total of 36 rooms, basically meeting the needs of the students for both studying and living.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Deputy Principal of Tran De Ethnic Boarding and Junior High School, said: "For ethnic minority students, the Party and State pay great attention and invest heavily in facilities, schools, and provide tuition fee exemptions and reductions. This makes parents and Khmer ethnic minority students in Tran De very happy."

Over the past period, Soc Trang province has consistently prioritized investment in building modern infrastructure and schools in areas inhabited by the Khmer ethnic minority. This investment has created favorable conditions for the children to continuously excel in their studies.

Visiting Chau Thanh Ethnic Boarding Junior High School, the first impression is the spacious and modern facilities, with a bright, green, clean, and beautiful schoolyard. The school has been in operation since the 2012-2013 school year and achieved National Standard status in 2016, and re-achieved National Standard status in 2021. With improved facilities and equipment, ensuring effective teaching, accommodation, and daily life, the quality of students' learning has significantly improved.

"At the beginning of the school year, we are given notebooks, pens, mosquito nets, mats, books... the teachers always care about us, so we feel very secure in our studies," shared Son Hao Nghi, a student at Chau Thanh Ethnic Boarding Junior High School.

In recent years, the school has consistently had over 70% of its students achieving good or excellent academic results, and all students have been promoted to the next grade. Studying here, students also regularly participate in cultural, sports , and arts activities organized by the school. These activities help them gain a deeper understanding of the nation's traditional culture and build confidence in their studies.

"In 2023, the Department of Education and Training invested over 7.4 billion VND (from the National Target Program for socio -economic development in ethnic minority areas) in upgrading and repairing the boarding school, multi-purpose hall, and purchasing equipment for Chau Thanh Ethnic Minority Boarding Junior High School. This has helped the school and the learning conditions of ethnic minority children to be more favorable and improved in quality," added Mr. Nguyen Van My, Vice Chairman of the Chau Thanh District People's Committee.

In Long Phu district, the local authorities have consistently invested in developing and improving the school system, from kindergartens to high schools, according to national standards. In particular, the Long Phu Ethnic Boarding Secondary School recently completed phase II of its construction to meet national standards, with an investment of over 20 billion VND.

In addition, the district currently has 15 schools in ethnic minority areas that meet national standards. Ethnic education policies have yielded practical results, helping to improve the quality of education and training and increase the annual enrollment rate of Khmer ethnic minority students.

Mr. Lieng Hien Su, Principal of Long Phu District Ethnic Boarding Secondary School, added: "Thanks to the attention of the Soc Trang Provincial Department of Education and Training, the Long Phu District Party Committee and People's Committee have invested in the school's facilities: especially the subject classrooms, auxiliary rooms and schoolyard, which are basically complete and in use this school year. With the current facilities, the school can improve the quality of education and move towards achieving national standards this school year and in the following years; all policies and regulations for teachers and students are implemented fully and promptly."

Currently, Soc Trang has 10 ethnic boarding schools with thousands of students from ethnic minority communities. Thanks to the attention of the Party Committee and local government, the schools in the ethnic boarding school system have received continuous investment, upgrading, repair, and construction, gradually meeting the teaching and learning needs of teachers and students from ethnic minority communities. As a result, education in ethnic minority areas in the locality continues to develop.
