To make your summer vacation truly meaningful.

With the 2025-2026 school year ending, many families in Dong Nai are beginning to plan their children's summer vacation. For many parents, summer is not only a time for children to relax after months of stressful studying, but also an opportunity for them to gain practical experience, develop life skills, and strengthen family bonds.

Instead of expensive or faraway trips, many families choose to give their children a summer close to nature, their hometown, and meaningful everyday experiences.

Accompanying and helping children grow up.

In late May, the family of Mr. Dang Duc Dinh (in Long Thanh ward) tried to arrange their business affairs to prepare for an eco-tourism trip with friends and relatives to the Ma Da forest and Tri An lake area in early June. “We want our children to temporarily put away their phones and computers and immerse themselves in nature. Experiences like cycling in the forest, wading through streams, or listening to guides share survival skills will help them learn many things that books might not,” Mr. Dinh shared.

Also choosing ecotourism for her children during the summer holidays, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Tham (from Trang Bom ward) said: "For many years, my family has prioritized trips connected with nature, forests, and hands-on experiences. In 2025, the whole family visited relatives in Phuoc Long ward, combined with a sightseeing trip to Bu Gia Map National Park. This year, my husband and I decided to take our children to Cat Tien National Park for 2 days and 1 night."

According to Ms. Tham, children today have early access to technology but sometimes lack opportunities to experience real life. Therefore, she wants her children to see ancient trees hundreds of years old firsthand and explore the rich and valuable forest ecosystem. In particular, the family will take the children on a night wildlife viewing tour, an activity she believes will leave many unforgettable impressions on young children.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Van Toan (from Tan Trieu ward) shared: Due to his busy business schedule, his wife has to stay in Dong Nai to manage the trade. This summer, he decided to take his children back to his hometown in Binh Dinh (now Gia Lai province) alone. “I chose the train so that my children can see the country through the train window, and see the rice fields and mountains stretching out along the journey. These things are very different from just seeing them on a phone or TV,” Mr. Toan confided.

On this trip back to his hometown, what Mr. Toan hopes for most is that his children, as they grow up, will experience the simple life of the countryside, where he was born and raised with so many beautiful memories. “Children in the city now have ample material resources, but sometimes lack connection with nature and real-life labor. Therefore, every year, I try to bring my children back to visit our hometown, hoping they will better understand the value of hard work and the simple life in the countryside,” Mr. Toan shared.

Strengthening family bonds

Not every family can afford to take their children on long trips or participate in expensive summer vacation programs. For many parents, simply spending time together as a family makes their children's summer meaningful. The family of Ms. Tran Thi Bich Tuyen (in Tam Hiep ward) is one such case. As factory workers, Ms. Tuyen and her husband have a modest income, so they have to carefully budget every expense. Even so, every year Ms. Tuyen's family tries to find time to take their children on trips during the summer vacation.

This year, Ms. Tuyen and her husband plan to take their children to visit eco-tourism orchards in the Long Khanh and Xuan Loc areas. There, the children can pick fresh, delicious fruits (rambutan, mangosteen, strawberries, guava, etc.) and enjoy them right in the orchard; they can also listen to farmers share their experiences in caring for crops and producing clean agricultural products... “My children really enjoy these trips because they get to have fun, experience new things, and learn many new things. Most importantly, the whole family gets to spend quality time together and strengthen their bonds,” Ms. Tuyen shared.

Education experts believe that summer is the ideal time for children to develop "soft skills," learn independence, and strengthen family bonds. Experiential trips help children broaden their knowledge, hone their adaptability, and create beautiful childhood memories. Especially in the context of the increasing impact of digital technology on children, exposing them to nature, participating in outdoor activities, or engaging in family life will help balance their psychology and promote more holistic development.

Meanwhile, the family of Mr. Huynh Tan Loi (from Tran Bien ward) chose a unique urban experience for their children. Mr. Loi said: This summer, his family chose a rather special trip: taking an electric bus from Bien Hoa Bus Station to the new Eastern Bus Station (Ho Chi Minh City), then experiencing the metro line and other modern public transportation. In their 3-day, 2-night trip to Ho Chi Minh City, his family plans to visit friends and relatives, enjoy delicious local food, watch movies, and explore the beautiful nightlife of the bustling city.

According to Mr. Loi, what the children enjoy most is not the destination but the novel and enriching experience. Young children are very excited to ride the metro and the open-top bus to explore the infrastructure and beautiful scenery of Ho Chi Minh City. Such trips help children broaden their knowledge, learn new skills, and observe life around them. Importantly, the whole family spends more time together and creates many beautiful memories.

Besides travel and recreational activities, during the summer, many parents also enroll their children in extracurricular classes, life skills courses, swimming lessons, or sports activities to help them develop more comprehensively. Each family has different circumstances and choices, but they all share the same desire: to give their children a fun, safe, and meaningful summer.
