On the morning of May 30th, thousands of students in Hanoi completed the Literature exam – the first subject of the entrance exam for 10th grade in public high schools for the 2026-2027 school year.
At many examination centers, the atmosphere after the exam was quite relaxed. Many students left the exam room feeling comfortable and confident that they had achieved a good score.

Many candidates predict they will get 8 points.
According to reporters, at around 10 a.m. on May 30, the areas in front of the examination centers were crowded with parents waiting for their children.
Cool bottles of water, words of encouragement, or a quick hug after the exam helped ease the tension following the first test.
At the exam center at Tan Mai Secondary School (Tuong Mai ward), Nguyen The Viet Tung, a student taking the entrance exam for Truong Dinh High School, said that this year's exam was not too difficult and the content was relatively familiar to students.
According to the male student, the social commentary section, which dealt with connections to the world around them, was quite accessible.
"I found the exam to be of average difficulty; the knowledge tested was mostly within the school curriculum. I think about 70% of the content was from the textbook, and the rest was practical application," Viet Tung shared.
She also said she wasn't too nervous entering the exam room and predicted she could score between 7 and 8 on the first subject.

Also at the exam center at Tan Mai Secondary School, student Nguyen Gia Nghi said that the most important thing when taking the literature exam is not memorizing but understanding the question.
"For me, literature is the subject that worries me the most among the three exams. However, this year's exam questions aren't tricky. If you focus on studying and understand the material, you can still do well," Gia Nghi said.
In my opinion, with the 2018 general education curriculum, the way literature is taught should also change, focusing on reading more, developing critical thinking skills, and relating it to real-life situations, instead of just memorizing sample essays. Gia Nghi predicts that if students have a solid grasp of basic knowledge, they can achieve around 8 points.
Another candidate at the Tan Mai Secondary School examination center also assessed this year's exam as "appropriate." She said that the social commentary topic, which focused on the connection between people and their surrounding lives, was quite relatable to secondary school students.
Open-ended questions increase the likelihood of relating to real-world situations.
Not only at the Tan Mai Secondary School examination center, but many students at other examination centers in Hanoi also shared the opinion that this year's exam questions were appropriate for students' abilities and had a moderate level of differentiation.

At Ba Dinh Secondary School, an examination center in Ngoc Ha ward, candidate Minh Anh said she was quite surprised to leave the exam room feeling more relieved than expected.
"At first, I was a little worried because this was my first exam. But when I read the questions, I found the content relatable, making it easier to develop my ideas. I think if I present my ideas well and make connections to real-life situations, I can definitely get a high score," Minh Anh shared.
I believe that the exam doesn't require students to memorize information, but rather provides an opportunity for them to express their personal opinions and demonstrate their understanding.
Meanwhile, at the Giang Vo Secondary School examination center (Giang Vo ward), student Pham Khanh Linh commented that this year's exam questions were designed to differentiate students' abilities but still remained appropriate for the general level.
"The basic questions are quite manageable if you have a solid grasp of the material taught in class. However, to achieve a score of 8-9, you need to be able to relate the answers to real-life situations and have better expression," Khánh Linh said.
Many parents also expressed reassurance that this year's exam questions were assessed in a way that increased the ability to apply knowledge and think practically. This is also the direction that the new general education program is aiming for.

In a brief phone conversation with a reporter from the Agriculture and Environment Newspaper, Ms. Trinh Mai Ngan (Bach Mai ward), a parent whose child had just completed the 10th-grade literature exam, said that both mother and child were quite pleased because the exam questions were manageable.
According to Ms. Ngan, the fact that her child was confident of scoring around 8 points also helped her maintain a more relaxed mindset for the remaining two subjects, English and Math.
According to observations at many examination centers, after the Literature exam, most candidates maintained a stable mindset before the foreign language exam later that afternoon. Many said that the most important thing right now is to stay healthy and relaxed to perform well on the foreign language exam this afternoon and the mathematics exam tomorrow.
