Today's online environment allows individuals to be both recipients, creators, and disseminators of information. A single status update, comment, or share can impact many people. Therefore, without vigilance and information identification skills, students can easily become links in the spread of misinformation.
According to Nguyen Duy Khiem, a member of the Executive Committee of the Student Union of the Western University of Construction, the most important foundation for proper conduct on social media is knowledge and political acumen. “Knowledge is the ‘shield’ that helps young people improve their ability to filter information. With sufficient understanding, students will not be easily influenced by misinformation or distorted narratives on social media,” Duy Khiem shared.
According to Duy Khiem, the culture of behavior in the digital environment needs to be built on the spirit of "proactiveness, alertness, and responsibility." Faced with controversial or unverified information, students need to develop the habit of checking the source and cross-referencing information from official channels before sharing or expressing their opinions.
Many students believe that young people need to proactively create positive values in the digital age. With their technological advantages, creativity, and sensitivity to new media trends, students can absolutely become a force spreading beautiful stories, humanistic values, and a sense of social responsibility.
According to Nguyen Huu Phuc, a member of the Secretariat of the Vietnam Student Association at Cuu Long University, building political fortitude among students aims to help young people discern right from wrong in social issues, contributing to the formation of civic consciousness, a sense of responsibility, and a desire to contribute.
“In the digital environment, political acumen is demonstrated in awareness and through how each person accesses, evaluates, and shares information. With the right awareness and a strong sense of responsibility, students will know how to use social media in a more civilized and responsible way,” Mr. Phuc said.
Based on practical experience in student association activities, many opinions suggest that education on appropriate behavior in the digital age should be implemented through methods that are accessible to students. Along with disseminating knowledge, it is crucial to help young people develop critical thinking, information verification skills, and the ability to protect themselves from risks in the digital environment.
Nguyen Gia Hue, a member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Student Association at Ben Tre College, believes that forums for exchange, creative digital content activities, online competitions, and dialogues with experts are effective ways to help students improve their awareness and skills in safe digital use.
Civil behavior in cyberspace
Today, online communities are platforms for information exchange and have a direct impact on the perceptions, thoughts, behaviors, and lifestyles of young people, including students. As each individual can become a creator and disseminator of information, the culture of behavior on online communities becomes more important than ever.
Nguyen Huu Tinh, a member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Student Association at Vinh Long University of Technology and Education, said that the university's Student Association regularly integrates the content of building a culture of appropriate behavior on KGM into its training programs for association officials and members.
"Through this activity, students are equipped with important skills, learn to choose authentic sources of information, and enhance their sense of responsibility when participating in social media," - Huu Tinh
share.
To build a safe and healthy digital environment for students, the Vietnam Student Union of the province has launched the "Civilized Behavior on the Internet" campaign for the period 2026-2028. The Union aims for 100% of student unions at universities, colleges, and university branches to sign commitments and develop implementation plans; and 100% of union officials to be informed and thoroughly understand the campaign's content. Simultaneously, it strives for 100% of members and students to have access to information on the four principles of "Compliance - Healthiness - Safety - Responsibility" on the internet.
Comrade Phan Thanh Tre, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union and President of the Vietnam Student Association of the province, believes that educating students on appropriate behavior in online communities needs to be done regularly and continuously through various flexible methods, suitable to the psychology and information access needs of students. Besides spreading positive stories and images, the various levels of the association should continue to equip students with safe digital skills, effectively utilize official media platforms, and build a core force to actively participate in communication among students.
In reality, along with the efforts of organizations and associations, building a civilized online environment begins with the awareness of each individual. Every share, every comment, and every post contributes to shaping the image of KGM.
Comrade Phan Thanh Tre expressed his wish that every association official, member, and student should uphold their responsibility as digital citizens; raise awareness when participating in the online environment; know how to select information and use social media for the right purpose and according to standards; not share false or unverified information; and actively spread positive, humane, and good things in the community.
