The 10th grade math entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City will include the following knowledge streams: Geometry and measurement; numbers and algebra; statistics and probability.

The test content aims to assess mathematical abilities: Thinking and reasoning; problem solving; modeling. The test requires students to know how to apply the knowledge they have learned to solve practical problems; encourages self-study and creativity, avoiding the situation of learning by heart and rote. The test content helps students orient themselves to some necessary knowledge and skills when entering high school.

Math is considered the most difficult subject in the annual 10th grade exam in Ho Chi Minh City. For 6 consecutive years (from 2018 to 2024, except for 2021 when there will be no exam), half of the 10th grade math exam in Ho Chi Minh City has a score below 5. This is consistent with the admission goal, creating competition, but also a warning about the way questions are set, the curriculum and practical application. This year, students will take the exam according to the 2018 generaleducation program.
