On the morning of May 31st, after completing the Mathematics exam - the final subject of the entrance exam for 10th grade in public high schools for the 2026-2027 school year in Hanoi - many candidates left the exam room in a fairly relaxed mood.

Most candidates are confident they will score around 8 points.
At the exam center at Doan Ket High School - Hai Ba Trung (Bach Mai ward), many students said that this year's exam questions were not too difficult, closely followed the curriculum, but still had a clear differentiation in difficulty levels.
As one of the first two candidates to leave the examination center, Pham Gia Hung, a student from Ngo Quyen Secondary School, said that about 80% of the exam questions were from the textbook curriculum, with the remaining questions being advanced ones designed to differentiate students.
"I predict I'll get around 8 points. If I have a solid grasp of the textbook material, I might get around 7-8 points," Hung shared.

In my opinion, although the exam wasn't too difficult, it still took quite a long time to complete. Out of the 120 minutes, I spent about 100 minutes on the exam itself, and the remaining time I used to review my entire work.
Nguyen Dang Khoi, a student from the same school as Gia Hung, commented that the exam was "easier than the school's assessment." The male student predicted he would score around 7.75 points and also suggested that students with a solid grasp of basic knowledge could achieve around 8 points. "About 15-20% of the questions were more advanced to differentiate students," Khoi said.
Meanwhile, Nguyen Thuy Duong, a student from Chuong Duong Secondary School, assessed the exam as moderately difficult but with a fairly high level of differentiation. According to Duong, if one has a solid grasp of the textbook knowledge, she thinks they can achieve around 7.75 points. However, to achieve a higher score, they need to handle the advanced questions well.
Duong said she had to use all 120 minutes to complete the exam. According to Duong, there will be a significant difference in scores among average, above-average, and excellent students on this year's exam.

At the exam center at Tan Mai Secondary School, Lam Gia Nghia predicted he would score around 8 points in Mathematics. Nghia registered Truong Dinh High School as his first choice and modestly stated his chances of being admitted as "50-50".
"Before the exam, I was quite stressed because of my packed study schedule. I studied almost every day of the week, only resting in the evenings. After the exam, I want to take a break for a while," Nghia shared.
The questions closely follow the textbook but still have a degree of differentiation.
Commenting on this year's math exam, writer Bui Ngoc Phuc, co-author of the book "Helping Your Child Navigate Through Exams," said: "This year's math exam closely followed the curriculum in the textbook. However, the differentiation was quite evident in the geometry section. Students with strong academic abilities and a solid grasp of knowledge and problem-solving skills could still complete the exam within the time limit. Meanwhile, many other students may have to give up on some difficult questions."
Before the 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi, writer Bui Ngoc Phuc also advised students to prioritize mastering the easy questions first, and then tackle the more difficult ones if time permits. "With this year's exam structure, if you do well on the basic knowledge, achieving around 8 points is entirely within reach, even if you can't solve all the advanced questions," he assessed.

Sharing the same opinion, Nguyen The Nhat Anh, a student at the Thanh Cong Secondary School exam center (Giang Vo ward), said that this year's exam had a clear differentiation, especially in the geometry section. According to Nhat Anh, students with a solid grasp of basic knowledge can achieve a good score, but to reach a score of 9-10, they need strong thinking skills and the ability to handle advanced questions well.
According to Mr. Ha Dinh Luc, a math teacher at Nila Secondary School in Hanoi, this year's exam was quite basic, closely following familiar question types. However, the questions aimed at scores of 9.5 - 10 had a relatively good level of differentiation.
The end of the Math exam also marks the official conclusion of this year's entrance exam for 10th grade in Hanoi's public high schools. After many days of intense studying, what many candidates want now is to rest and wait for the results, hoping to get into their dream school.
