On May 8th, the Da Nang City Department of Finance announced that it is seeking feedback on a draft resolution regulating the collection, management, and use of entrance fees for the Cam Thanh Coconut Forest Historical and Cultural Relic Area in Hoi An Dong ward.
According to the draft, the proposed entrance fee is 30,000 VND per person per visit for organizations and individuals visiting the historical site. The Hoi An Dong Ward Public Service Center will be responsible for collecting the fee.
The draft also stipulates that several groups of people are exempt from or entitled to reduced entrance fees.
Specifically: Children, people from impoverished households, journalists, researchers, members of the Vietnam Heritage Association, and people with severe disabilities are completely exempt from fees.
Meanwhile, groups such as those who have rendered meritorious services to the revolution, the elderly, people with severe disabilities, students of ethnic minority boarding schools, people in particularly difficult communes and villages, and those eligible for cultural preferential policies will receive a 50% reduction in fees.

According to the draft, if an individual is eligible for multiple preferential treatment categories, only the highest fee reduction will be applied.
Regarding revenue management, the fee-collecting unit is allowed to retain 50% of the total revenue collected to cover management, operation, and organization of activities at the historical site. The remaining amount is remitted to the state budget as stipulated.
Previously, the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism also sent out a proposal to solicit opinions from agencies, units, and the public regarding the entrance fees at major museums in the city. The proposed fee ranged from a minimum of 20,000 VND per ticket to a maximum of 60,000 VND per ticket.
Cam Thanh Coconut Forest (also known as Bay Mau Coconut Forest) is one of the two most popular tourist attractions in the Hoi An area.
Currently, this tourist area welcomes an average of around 1 million visitors annually, generating tens of billions of VND in revenue from entrance ticket sales. The coconut forest also creates a vast livelihood space for thousands of households.
