Community tourism in Con Son (Bui Huu Nghia Ward, Binh Thuy District, Can Tho) is known by many tourists from near and far for its garden ecosystem, the simplicity of the island people and the rustic daily activities. The fish and vegetables on this land therefore have tourism "potential" when exploited by the people into unique products.
For many years, visitors to Con Son have seen flying snakehead fish, snakehead fish drinking from bottles, giant catfish eating rice with a spoon, catfish swimming out of water... In particular, frog circus is a new and unique product, which has just been "introduced" and put into service for children coming to Con Son this coming summer.
"As a member of the Con Son Agricultural Tourism Cooperative, I want to contribute to enriching the tourism products here. From there, I cherished the idea of utilizing animals close to the people such as frogs to perform circus acts, based on the frog's calling and jumping features," said Mr. Cang.
Looking back on his journey of teaching frogs to perform "circus", Mr. Le Van Cang asserted that frogs must be cherished and treated as "pets" in order to be taught to perform tricks. In addition, this requires perseverance, diligence in learning and understanding the habits and growth patterns of frogs in order to have appropriate training methods.
To train frogs to perform circus acts, Mr. Cang had to go to many frog breeding farms in and outside the province to select quality frogs with "unique" colors. Then he brought them home to raise and practice their sounds and movements. After training, the frogs, at about 30 days old, can perform skillfully by calling to music and jumping through hoops from low to high levels.

"Selecting frogs with unique colors is very difficult. During the breeding and training process, maintaining the color is even more difficult because frogs adapt to the outside environment, so maintaining that selective color is a whole process," said Mr. Cang.
Le Gia Bao, a tourist from Nghe An, was excited when he saw frogs performing circus acts for the first time. The frogs jumping through hoops at the command of the trainer at Con Son is a completely new thing.

Each ring has colorful bait strings to attract frogs to jump up and eat the bait through the ring.

Currently, Mr. Cang can make frogs perform circus acts such as croaking to music, jumping from low to high through hoops. In the near future, he will continue to create more performances to serve children when they visit Con Son in the summer.
"Frogs can perform jumping through single hoops or sets of six hoops skillfully even when they are only 30 days old. They must be trained to get used to commands and use colorful bait strings so that the frogs can compete to eat and jump through the hoops," said Mr. Cang.
