“It was a great honor and a lot of fun to create this lamp with Gen and his amazing team at Balmuda,” said Ive. The result is a lamp that combines modernity and tradition, using premium materials and rechargeable LEDs. |

According to Ive, the lantern was designed to be suitable for use in the nautical field. The product was inspired by his childhood hobby of sailing. Of course, Ive did not forget to mention the new design of the Sailing Lantern compared to traditional lanterns. |

“Despite its new materials, shape and construction, the product still has the same familiar, reliable feel as the nautical lanterns and Fresnel lamps of the past, which have been improved to ensure strict standards,” Ive shared. |

The materials and design of the Sailing Lantern are reminiscent of Apple products. The glass surrounding the lamp is ground and polished to “perfect precision”. The steel is finished with a sophisticated technique of polishing, sandblasting, and electroplating. |

According to the manufacturer, the material and construction make the product “easy to maintain, disassemble and repair, as well as simple recycling after the end of its useful life.” The lantern is sold in limited quantities (1,000 pieces) for $4,800 , with delivery expected from March 2026. |

Known as a “design wizard” for creating many impressive products such as the iMac or iPod, Jony Ive left Apple in 2019 to found LoveFrom. This studio has designed many products such as the red nose, the seal for the Terra Carta award and the designs of Airbnb. Recently, LoveFrom announced a partnership with OpenAI to develop new AI devices. |
