According to the plan, this morning, July 1st, the Department of Education and Training will approve the cutoff scores for admission to specialized, dual-degree, and bilingual 10th-grade classes; in the afternoon of the same day, they will approve the cutoff scores for admission to non-specialized 10th-grade classes. Many teachers have offered predictions for the cutoff scores.
Ms. Nguyen Thanh Loan from Chu Van An Secondary School ( Hanoi ) said that this year's entrance exam scores for 10th grade are slightly higher than last year. The number of students achieving scores between 37 and 42 points in the three subjects of Mathematics, Literature, and English is greater. For example, in her homeroom class, 30 out of 48 students scored 40 points or higher.
Therefore, she also predicted that the cut-off scores for top-tier and mid-tier public high schools would be slightly higher than last year, possibly increasing by 0.5 to 1 point.

Mr. Tran Manh Tung, a math teacher in Hanoi, assessed that this year's 10th grade entrance exam maintained the same structure as in previous years. This is an advantage for students because it is similar to the types of questions they have studied and reviewed for the exam; and similar to the practice exams they have taken.
The exam is basically straightforward, without any new or unusual elements, and not tricky. 85% of the questions cover fundamental knowledge, while 15% are designed to challenge higher-achieving students. Students with average abilities can easily score 6-7 points, while those with high abilities can score around 8-9 points.
Regarding Mathematics specifically, Mr. Tung believes that the average score will increase by about 0.5 points compared to last year. Therefore, it can be predicted that the cut-off scores for admission to 10th grade will increase sharply by 1-1.5 points for top-tier schools (around 42 points), mid-tier schools will see an increase of 0.5-1 point, and bottom-tier schools may see a slight increase of 0.5 points.
According to Mr. Tran Duc Hoang, a teacher specializing in preparing students for the 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi, the cut-off scores for top schools this year have increased by at most 1-2 points.
Most teachers considered this year's exam more difficult than last year's, but only in a few minor points within the questions designed to challenge candidates who wouldn't score 9.5 or 10. Overall, the questions were somewhat easier.
"Therefore, there will be fewer perfect scores (10 out of 10) in Math and English than last year. However, many candidates will achieve scores of around 7, 8, or 9, and the score distribution will definitely be skewed to the right. That's why the cut-off scores for top universities could increase sharply by up to 2 points," Mr. Hoang said.
This teacher also expressed concern that the Hanoi public high school entrance exam does not adequately differentiate between good and excellent students, and average and above-average students, making it difficult to filter out all the candidates. This is disadvantageous for mid-tier high schools.
According to regulations from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, after knowing their exam scores and admission cutoff scores, successful candidates must complete the enrollment confirmation procedure and print the enrollment confirmation letter to submit along with their application when enrolling.
From July 10th to 12th, public high schools are expected to confirm enrollment for admitted students through both online and in-person methods. During this period, if students voluntarily submit their admission documents, schools will facilitate the verification and acceptance process according to the guidelines.
However, for other types of schools (including financially autonomous public high schools, private schools, and vocational education and continuing education centers), students only need to complete the enrollment confirmation procedure in person.
To facilitate students, the Department of Education and Training requires that, during the enrollment period, if students wish and voluntarily submit their enrollment applications in person, schools should facilitate their acceptance in accordance with regulations.
