In the early days of spring, Kim Bong carpentry village bustles with activity as it prepares for its festival (January 11th and 12th). Every corner of the riverbank resounds with the sounds of traditional crafts such as wood carving, bamboo carving, boat building, mat making, and basket weaving. Out on the river, boats occasionally carry tourists to enjoy the scenery and watch fishermen demonstrate casting their nets for fishing.
According to Mr. Huynh Ngoc Hung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Cam Kim commune, the main highlight that the organizers have maintained at the village festival since the COVID-19 pandemic is the "plastic-free festival". At this year's festival, the recreation of Kim Bong rural market was introduced to the public for the first time and was well received by locals and tourists.
Mr. Vo Phung, Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam Tourism Association and a consultant for the event, shared that this activity is expected to be held monthly, promising to bring new tourism products, attract tourists, and promote clean agricultural products from Cam Kim to the Hoi An market and surrounding areas.
"What's special about the Kim Bong rural market is that it only uses environmentally friendly packaging and materials, creating a traditional market atmosphere and offering a visit and exploration experience of Kim Bong village in a green and sustainable way," said Mr. Vo Phung.
When applying to join UNESCO's Creative Cities Network, Hoi An put forward the initiative "Kim Bong Woodworking - Inspiring Creativity". To concretize this, the local government has focused on investing in infrastructure, organizing guided tours, and developing community-based tourism models linked to ecological rural villages.
Tourism products and services have been innovated and created over time, along with the participation and contributions of the local people, breathing new life into Cam Kim's green tourism. A series of green destinations associated with experiences in shipbuilding, mat making, noodle making, etc., have made a great impression on tourists who love exploring local values.
Ms. Pham Thi Cong, representing a mat-weaving household in the commune, said that in recent times, the facility has continuously innovated to create more eye-catching products from sedge, suitable as souvenirs for tourists. The facility's experiential space also regularly welcomes visitors for tours and experiences.
Mr. Dinh Van Loc, Director of Viet Da Tourism Joint Stock Company (Da Nang City), commented that Cam Kim's tourism products have impressively "reinvented themselves" in recent times. Some experiences here are truly attractive, suitable for both Vietnamese and international tourists; the destinations within Cam Kim commune alone are enough to design an appealing day tour.
