According to Bloomberg , the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max will feature a smaller Dynamic Island notch, differentiating them from the iPhone 17 Pro.
Over the past year, there have been conflicting rumors about Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro. Some leakers suggest the device will use Face ID hidden under the screen, with a circular hole instead of Dynamic Island. Others predict the product will retain this feature.
Currently, many reputable leakers lean towards the possibility that Apple will keep Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro, only shrinking its size.
Last year, the iPhone 17 Pro was also rumored to shrink Dynamic Island, but that didn't happen. With the iPhone 18 Pro, the rumor has resurfaced.
MacRumors notes that when multiple leakers post similar information about an iPhone upgrade, it's often accurate, especially when the product launch is still several months away.
To miniaturize Dynamic Island, Apple is reportedly placing the Face ID dot projector system hidden under the screen. Some rumors suggest the selfie camera on the iPhone 18 Pro will also be smaller. The remaining components will remain in the same notch as before.
Previously, leaker Fixed Focus Digital stated that the iPhone 18 Pro series had entered the mass production trial phase. This means that if the process goes smoothly, the device could launch in September of this year.
Based on rumors, the iPhone 18 Pro doesn't have major changes in materials, and the overall design is similar to its predecessor.
Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman also emphasized that the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max will not be a major upgrade. He compared this generation to the previous "S" series of iPhones, which were intended for minor upgrades.
While not a massive upgrade, the Bloomberg writer lists several key changes on the iPhone 18 Pro, such as a camera system with variable aperture, the A20 processor, and Apple's own C2 modem.
Specifically for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, the device is expected to have a battery capacity of 5,100-5,200 mAh, the highest among Apple's smartphone lines. Combined with improvements to the A20 Pro chip, manufactured on TSMC's 2nm process, the iPhone 18 Pro Max could have even better battery life.
Gurman emphasized that the iPhone 18 Pro is not the highlight of Apple's year-end event; instead, it will be the foldable iPhone.
