According to the examination board, the average score of the 2025 competency assessment test (HSA test) will be higher than previous years. The reason is that candidates can choose the third part of the test to promote their personal abilities and strengths.

On the evening of March 16, after the first round of the Hanoi National University's 2025 aptitude test (HAS test), Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao, chairman of the examination council, said that the total number of candidates registered for the exam was 11,027. The number of candidates who completed their application documents in accordance with the regulations and came to take the exam was 10,958 (99.4% of the candidates taking the exam). One candidate was disciplined and suspended from the exam.
The first round of HSA exams will take place on March 15 and 16 at 8 locations. Of these, 5 locations are in Hanoi, 3 locations are in Thai Nguyen, Nam Dinh , and Thai Binh. Currently, 100 universities are using HSA 2025 results for university admission.
Preliminary statistics show that the candidate with the highest score in the first round of exams was 126/150. The second highest score was 125/150.
"The average score of the 2025 competency assessment test will be slightly higher than previous years. The reason is that candidates can choose the third part of the test to promote their personal abilities and strengths," Mr. Thao initially commented.
Mr. Thao said that in the past two days, some exam preparation groups have impersonated candidates (using fake accounts) to "review" the 501st round of competency assessment exams (the first round of exams) to advertise and attract candidates to take the exam.
Right after the first exam session ended, at 11am on March 15, some fake accounts posted scores of 126/150 and 135/150. Mr. Thao confirmed that no candidate achieved these scores on the first day of the exam.
"The Hanoi National University's competency assessment test is designed based on modern measurement testing science . The test structure and test question content are distributed from grade 10 to grade 12 at the ratio of 10-15%, 30-40%, 50-60% respectively.
Short-term review is not very effective for candidates. The exam organizer also recommends that candidates should have a scientific and systematic study and review plan instead of getting bogged down in promotional exam preparation groups," said Mr. Thao.
This year, Hanoi National University opened 6 HSA exam sessions, with about 90,000 exam seats. Each candidate can register for a maximum of 2 exam sessions. However, after the first registration period, all exam seats were booked, so no candidate was able to register for 2 exam sessions.

Candidates can choose to take the English or science test.
The Hanoi National University's competency assessment test will be applied from 2025 for candidates taking the new general education program.
Candidates must complete two compulsory sections: mathematics and data processing (50 questions, 75 minutes), literature - language (50 questions, 60 minutes) and an optional section of science or English (50 questions, 60 minutes).
For the science option, candidates must choose 3 out of 5 topics in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, history and geography.
Mr. Thao commented that in the first round of exams, students in the city chose the third part, English, more than the science part. Meanwhile, candidates in rural areas chose the science part more.
