It all started with Yamal's confident statement before the Barca - PSG match in the second round of the Champions League. The 18-year-old superstar declared that he would "checkmate his opponent".
And then after the match, Yamal was completely silent. He had no direct contribution to the home team's opening goal - scored by Ferran Torres, and assisted by Rashford.
Goncalo Ramos, who scored the winning goal for PSG, did not miss the opportunity to tease his opponent.
The Portuguese star said in a post-match interview: "Don't talk too much, prove it with actions." Although Ramos didn't mention anyone specifically by name, the media knew these words were aimed at Yamal.
This is not the first time Yamal has suffered a humiliating defeat against Portugal. In the UEFA Nations League final, he was "pocketed" by Nuno Mendes in Spain's defeat to Portugal.
PSG have a host of Portuguese stars, with Mendes, Neves, Vitinha and Ramos all standing out. Neves is out injured today, but Mendes alone is more than enough to keep an eye on Yamal.
In all fairness, Yamal did not play too badly in this match with 5 successful dribbles, 1 big chance created. He put considerable pressure on PSG's left wing.

However, Mendes has generally successfully contained Yamal, significantly limiting the danger the 18-year-old superstar creates.
Not only that, Mendes also assisted the equalizer 1-1 for PSG, and received the UEFA Man of the Match award. This result was no less ironic for Yamal.
On social networks, Yamal also received thousands of sarcastic comments. "Every time Yamal talks too much before a match, Barca loses," a fan wrote on X.
