Closing of the Scientific Workshop “Plei Me Victory - Size, Significance and Historical Lessons”

(GLO)- With the spirit of urgent and serious work, the scientific workshop “Plei Me Victory - Magnitude, significance and historical lessons” at the Ministry of National Defense level closed at noon on November 18. The workshop continued to clarify many important issues about the Plei Me Campaign in the process of resistance war against the US to save the country.

According to the Workshop Steering Committee, the papers submitted and presented at the workshop focused on analyzing major contents, affirming the strategic vision and correct decisions of the Party when directing the launch of the Plei Me Campaign in the context of the US massively deploying the "Local War" strategy. The victory of the Campaign opened a new situation, strengthened strategic confidence, and created the premise for subsequent victories in the resistance war against the US to save the country.

The workshop clarified the opening role of the Plei Me Victory for major campaigns on the Central Highlands battlefield, thereby creating the foundation for the Politburo to decide to choose the Central Highlands as the opening direction of the 1975 General Strategic Offensive.

The conference once again affirmed that the Plei Me Victory was an important milestone in the history of fighting against the US to save the country; the values, lessons and military art drawn from the campaign still have current significance and need to continue to be studied and applied in the current cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

In his closing speech at the conference, Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, emphasized: The opinions and discussions have provided many valuable documents on the Plei Me Campaign. This is a valuable research, propaganda, learning and educational document on the history of war.

Therefore, it is recommended that agencies, units, academies and schools in the army actively promote research results into the training, learning and development practices of their agencies and units.

The Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army also requested that the central, military and local press agencies continue to propagate and contribute to historical education for cadres, soldiers, and people of all walks of life, especially the young generation, to clearly and correctly understand the historical value of the Plei Me victory in the process of resistance war against the US to save the country.

At the same time, arouse and promote the tradition of patriotism and the spirit of revolutionary offensive in carrying out all tasks assigned by the Party, State, People and Army.
