This is the second time Vietnamese bread has been honored by CNN in 2025. The first time in June it was in the top 10. This time it is in the second position in the top 25. This confirms that this seemingly popular Vietnamese street food is increasingly winning the hearts of international tourists.

The appeal of Vietnamese sandwiches is said to lie in the variety of fillings. Inside the crispy, fragrant flour crust are ham, char siu pork, pate, cucumber, sweet and sour carrots and radishes, herbs, drizzled with a little soy sauce, and the spiciness of chili satay. In addition, the fillings of sandwiches can also be varied with roast pork, braised mackerel, fried eggs, fish cakes or vegetarian fillings... depending on taste and region.
In 2024, the traditional food review site TasteAtlas ranked Vietnamese banh mi at the top of its list of 100 best sandwiches. The site also included banh mi in its list of the top 50 Asian street foods, demonstrating the strong appeal of this popular dish.
