This is the second time Vietnamese banh mi has been honored by CNN in 2025. The first time was in June, ranking in the top 10. This time, it's ranked second in the top 25. This confirms that this seemingly humble street food from Vietnam is increasingly winning the hearts of international tourists.

The appeal of Vietnamese banh mi is said to lie in the variety of fillings. Inside the crispy, fragrant flour crust are Vietnamese sausage, char siu pork, pate, cucumber, carrots and sweet and sour pickled radish, herbs, drizzled with soy sauce, and garnished with chili paste. In addition, banh mi fillings are also varied with roasted pork, braised mackerel, fried eggs, fish cakes, or vegetarian options… depending on taste and region.

In 2024, the traditional food review website TasteAtlas ranked Vietnamese banh mi at the top of its list of the 100 best sandwiches. The site also included banh mi in its list of the top 50 street foods in Asia, demonstrating the strong appeal of this humble dish.
