This is the first time the congress has been held, bringing together many competitions such as chess, Chinese chess, Go, bridge and speed Rubik's. Although there is only one representative participating, Vietnamese chess still made a strong impression thanks to the top performance of Tuan Minh.
Entering the tournament with a rapid chess Elo of 2,499 and seeded No. 3, Le Tuan Minh was behind two strong opponents Megaranto Susanto (Indonesia, Elo 2,534) and Tin Jingyao (Singapore, Elo 2,504). The absence of top Asian players such as Gukesh, Le Quang Liem or Du Uong Y due to conflicting World Cup schedules opens up greater competition opportunities for Southeast Asian athletes. However, overcoming a series of formidable opponents and winning the title is still not an easy challenge.

Le Tuan Minh won the chess gold medal at the Asian Mind Sports Games
With extremely stable performance, Le Tuan Minh played brilliantly throughout 9 games, achieving an undefeated record of 7 wins and 2 draws, excellently earning 8 points, enough to win the championship. Notably, he directly defeated No. 1 seed Megaranto in game 5 and drew with No. 2 seed Tin Jingyao in game 6. In games 7 and 8, the Vietnamese player continued to show his mettle when he successively defeated two Chinese players Zhao Chenxi and Dai Changren, firmly securing the leading position before the final round.
In the end, Megaranto won the silver medal with 7.5 points, while Tin Jingyao won the bronze medal with 7 points. Tuan Minh's performance reached 2,617, a number that proved his top form and helped him add 16.6 Elo in rapid chess.
Le Tuan Minh, 29 years old, is currently one of the most prominent faces of Vietnamese chess, although he does not appear in the media as often as Le Quang Liem or Truong Son. From the national championship title in 2020 to two gold medals at the 31st SEA Games, then the individual bronze medal at the 2024 Olympiad after a series of 11 unbeaten games against many grandmasters, Tuan Minh has increasingly affirmed his position in the international chess community. He is considered by experts as the "silent hero" of Vietnamese chess: persistent, tenacious and always shining at the right time.
At this Asian Mind Sports Games, Tuan Minh is the only Vietnamese player participating in chess. After winning the gold medal in rapid chess, he continued to compete in blitz chess with Elo 2,582, as the second seed and is expected to continue to bring home high results.
