Identifying and refuting these false arguments is the responsibility of every cadre, party member and citizen of Gia Lai province in the new context.
1. One of the most common arguments is the deliberate downplaying and denial of the results of the Plei Me Victory. Some online information subjects claim that this was just a “small battle” that “did not affect the US strategy”.
This statement is completely unscientific and contrary to official military history works. The History of Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee, History of Military Region 5 , History of the Central Highlands Army , History of the 320th Division... all affirm that the Plei Me Victory in 1965 was a key battle, forcing the US to send the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade - the most elite force at that time - to the Central Highlands battlefield.
Combat practice on the battlefield shows that our army and people have killed and wounded more than 1,700 enemies, shot down and destroyed 59 planes, burned 89 military vehicles, and firmly held Plei Me base. Those numbers cannot be the result of an “insignificant” battle!

Another type of distortion is to deny the Party's leadership role, claiming that victory was "accidental" or "spontaneous". In fact, the system of documents of the Central Office for Southern Vietnam, Military Region 5 and the Central Highlands Front Command in 1965 shows the sharp strategic leadership of our Party: proactively attacking, fighting to win, skillfully combining fortification and mobilization, promoting the combined strength of the main force, local troops and people of the Jrai and Bahnar ethnic groups...
The report of the US 1st Air Cavalry Division itself also had to admit that: "For the first time, US troops faced a well-organized, aggressive and coordinated People's Army force", showing that the enemy also recognized the organizational strength and proactive spirit of the Vietnam People's Army.
In addition, much information on social networks has deliberately distorted the casualty situation of both sides, exaggerating our army's losses or downplaying the losses of the US-puppet army to create skepticism among the public.
However, both Vietnamese historical records and post-war reports of the US military agree that the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade suffered heavy losses in men and equipment. Many US documents describe this battle as a “serious demoralizing” battle for the Air Cavalry force.

More dangerously, some YouTube and TikTok channels have taken advantage of image editing, using only materials from the US side, deliberately removing all official Vietnamese documents to reconstruct the battle in a distorted way. This is a clear manifestation of the " peaceful evolution" strategy on the ideological and cultural front, aiming to distort history and undermine people's trust in the nation's revolutionary tradition.
The above arguments are completely contrary to the highly reliable historical documents of both Vietnam and the US. According to the History of the Central Highlands Troops , Plei Me was the first large-scale counter-offensive campaign to defeat the US's "helicopter and armored vehicle" tactics, helping our troops grasp the combat rules of the US Air Cavalry, creating an important premise for later victories at Dak To - Tan Canh.
This victory forced the US to adjust its "search and destroy" strategy, marking the first defeat of the Air Cavalry, the force considered the "trump card" of the US army on the Vietnam battlefield.
2. After the province merger from July 1, 2025, Gia Lai province is operating a 2-level local government model with higher requirements for political stability, consolidating the people's hearts and increasing resistance to bad and toxic information on cyberspace.
In the context of hostile forces increasingly distorting history, Party committees, authorities, organizations and each of us need to promote official information. Cadres, Party members and ethnic minorities in our province need to identify and refute false information; organize activities to educate about traditions, return to the source, visit Plei Me relics, K10 Revolutionary Base and historical and cultural relics in the province. At the same time, resolutely fight publicly against sources of information that distort and falsify historical truths.
The Plei Me Victory is the pride of the army and people of Gia Lai, an immutable historical value. All distorted arguments are aimed at weakening the belief in the Party, causing distorted perception, especially among the younger generation. Protecting historical truth, resolutely refuting wrong views, and spreading official information about the Plei Me Victory in 1965 is our responsibility, our duty, and our deep gratitude to previous generations who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the nation.
When the truth is confirmed, when the value of the Plei Me Victory is spread by scientific evidence and official voices, Gia Lai province today will have more courage and strength to confidently enter an era of rapid, sustainable and humane development; contributing to building a prosperous and happy country.
