Gia Lai fosters intangible cultural heritage for 40 students

(GLO)- On the morning of November 17, at Dien Hong ward, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Gia Lai province opened a training class on intangible cultural heritage taught by a Meritorious Artisan.

This activity is part of the National Target Program for socio -economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the province in 2025.

Accordingly, 40 trainees participated in 4 intensive training courses (lasting 1 week) including: Bahnar gong tuning, Jrai gong tuning, brocade weaving, and Bahnar wood carving. The classes were taught by 4 Outstanding Artisans: Nay Phai (Phu Tuc commune), Dinh Thi Hrin (Kong Chro commune), Dinh Ue (Kong Chro commune), and Dinh Dung (To Tung commune).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Gia Lai province, Le Thi Thu Huong, provided the following information: Since 2014, the process of submitting applications for the titles of People's Artisan and Distinguished Artisan in the field of intangible cultural heritage has been conducted nationwide; to date, three rounds of awards have been completed. After these three rounds, 32 artisans from the western part of Gia Lai province alone have been awarded the title of Distinguished Artisan; eight of these artisans have since passed away.

In order to support and encourage outstanding artisans in practicing intangible cultural heritage and actively passing on traditional values ​​to succeeding generations, in 2025, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will organize 6 classes on teaching intangible cultural heritage, divided into 2 phases.

“These training courses give artisans the opportunity to interact, learn, and further hone their experience and existing skills. I sincerely hope that the Outstanding Artisans will continue to maintain the teaching and support of young people in the locality in learning and practicing traditional cultural heritage; and I hope that the trainees will continue to practice the heritage they have learned in this training course so that they become even more skilled and can pass it on to others,” the Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism expressed his expectations.
